2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Unfortunately, 2nd period against LSSU was a microcosm of our season thus far.

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

has anyone heard any news of goalie recruits?

Has everyone totally lost interest? Anyone see us coming away with a W during the Cat Cup? I don't, but hopefully they can at least keep one of the games close.

I certainly don't think anyone saw US having a chance at coming away with it..

Agreed, especially by that score. Congrats! You guys have a good team though, while us, not so much.... Thus, I suspect despite the loss, Ferris will get it goin tonight.

Yeah, Cat fans have been noticeably absent recently, probably because of our play. I watched some of the LSSU game on live video, but didn't see a minute of this one. Thus, no comments here, other than we finally won one!

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Pretty much a copy of Thurday without the terrible 2nd period.

Luukko and Franson were out, not sure why and considering the good job Griem and Herrington did in thier place I wonder
who gets the start on Wed at Maine.

Reynolds has been a solid freshman all year and he had another great mid-weekend but we might have seen the coming out party for
Markison and Montagna as these two have shown vast improvment and finally are starting to cash in on the chances they get.

Madore was good in both games as most of the goals (especailly on Thursday) were bad breakdowns or dumb penalties.

Who would have thought that while Brickley was gone Vermont would have won as many games as the US team has.
At least with the possbilility of making the medal round all but done it will free up Brickley in time for the Fenway game.

Anyone else notice that Letz had a "C" on his jersey not an "A" last night.

I quess you miss 2 games and you get a promotion.

I made an attempt at doing some sports photography at the Catamount Cup. I got shots from the UVM v. Ferris State game in addition to both of the RIT games. Here they are if anyone is interested: http://mdumont.smugmug.com/Hockey

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Sneddon has changed the system to be more offensive to play into recruiting more offensive talent, that has hurt the D first system and opened up and exposed our young defense and horrible goaltending (particularly this year)

However, I still think the future is bright. The freshmen are starting to develop (and they need to with almost no upperclassmen on this team and two of them injured)

Markinson is fast as hell, if he can start to bury the puck consistently he will be a huge threat. Reynolds continues to be dangerous. 5 of last 6 goals from the freshmen.....

What does concern me is the NOTHING we are seeing out of Nilsson Roos and Decenzo. What happened with those two? If they were as good as last year it would help.....

And I'm surprised Brett Bruneteau is not showing more offensive ability.

Hopefully they don't give up 6 more goals to Maine.... With two of the starting D out that is worrisome against Maine's faster and crafty forwards. We need Brickley back, his absence was notable.

Did I mention that NO SNOW and bad hockey both at the same time is bad?
