2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

It seemed for a while that Kevin was getting his teams to overachieve by playing good physical hockey with strong defense. We would grind out games. Now it seems we are prone to low energy and stupid mistakes...

This.

Guys are not working, blocking shots, etc. That needs to change. Talent does not replace hard work. Two a days until they feel like skating hard...

I'm an old UVM fan but a new guy to the Forum.
For what its worth I offer my opinion.
It appears to me that there has always been a difference in objectives for D1 players and coaches.
Sneddon wants to win, players want exposure.Particularly those looking to play in the pros.
Unfortunately,Sneddon tries to build a winner around team defence. That what he knows and its been successful
for him.(winning record)
He can win a share of games but he will seldom attract a 'natural scorer' with that philosophy.
The reason Reynolds came is because his choices were limited because he's small.
(to my mind he's a 'natural'.)
The rest of the team appear very 'wooden', like they are following a script. The result of playing 'my system'.
Brickley and Stalberg have good, hard, accurate shots but they are positional and their shooting is predictable.

Merry Christmas fellow Vermont fans, the question I have is if you could ask for anyone thing for our program as a Christmas present, what would it/they be? Mine would be a solid, consistent goaltender to replace our current one who is leaving after this year.
Others?

Connor Brinkley's leg injury

Connor Brinkley's leg injury

Any update on Connor Brinkley's injury tonight in 2nd period of Team USA's defeat of Denmark? I've heard his leg was cut by a skate blade but don't know the severity.

“@chrismpeters: I'm told Connor Brickley's cut is not serious and he will not miss any time. Good news for both Brickley and Team USA. #USAWJC”

Thanks for the update - glad it was good news! :)

It's time for the Cats to get their act together and start the second half of the season with a win against the Russians.

Also good to hear the Brickley is OK, it looked bad when he got hurt. He's one of the bright spots for the Cats right now.

Whew... Was it Norris Jordan back in the eighties that had a similar incident, but worst??? Also, hoping the #BleedGreen&Gold tweet puts to rest the QMJ rumors... at least for now..

I saw Ian Boyce get his achilles tendon severed by a skate during a game at Gutterson.

It was Jordan ... rode back on the bus with the team from game at Clarkson ... bus went straight to Fletcher Allen and dropped him off as we rolled back into town.
It looked scary last night when Brickley went down ... but the word from NHL.com it is not considered serious and he may well play Wednesday vs Finland ... think Sneddon's heart skipped a few beats though if he was watching on TV last night?

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Ian Boyce did not suffer a severed Achilles at Gutterson. Norris Jordan was injured at Clarkson, as PuckVoice said, but the player who had the same thing happen at The Gut was, I believe, Ricker Love.

Did anyone see the game with the Red Stars? Was there a high level of goonery on their part?

Watched part of the game on the live video feed and didn't see any goon tactics. There was really no need for it anyway--they were having their way with the Cats without any goonery.

I found a Vermont jersey for $40 in Detroit today, so I bought it.

Has everyone totally lost interest? Anyone see us coming away with a W during the Cat Cup? I don't, but hopefully they can at least keep one of the games close.
