Re: 2011-12 Schedules

I miss the days of Elmira having more than 11 home games.

Used to be years when they would have 14 or 15 back when Elmira had a tournament.

Also, this if the first year "Plattsburgh" hasn't been on the schedule somewhere in quite sometime. :(

Maybe they will get their Plattsburgh fix at the Primelink, but you are right. It does seem like a hole in the schedule without the Cards on it.

Utica College schedule:

http://ucpioneers.com/schedule.aspx?path=mhockey

The first thing that becomes clear with the release of this schedule is that UC will not be joining the SUNYAC for hockey... at least not for 2011-12 (not sure if this had already been cleared up in another thread). Happy to see that UC is going back to Plattsburgh to play in the Cardinal Classic. Lots of good memories from their only other year as a participant. Also glad to see that the home and home with Oswego remains on the schedule this year.

I'm somewhat disappointed in the number of non-conference road games (as I think this has a chance to be a very good team and I would like to see them tested early and often), but the quality is there with the Lakers and the potential of playing the Cardinals.

Empire 8???

And that March 4, 2012 game vs. Manhattanville has to move

Re: 2011-12 Schedules

Utica better hope they win the league...and don't waste any points against Oswego...the schedule is again laughable. Only 7 (maybe 8) TOTAL road games?? Some great NC games coming to Utica again this year... 14 non conference games, 10 at home?!?!?! But they did resign with powerhouse Westfield State, Salve Regina and added DII power house St.Mikes....

I don't want to hear any whining when Utica is left out, again.

Considering the SUNYAC hasn't even voted on it yet...

And there is always a waiting period of at least one year to allow leagues to prepare for incoming teams and for those teams to wrap up their commitments to their current league.

Excuse me..... i think our conference speaks for itself. we don't have any dead weight like potsdam or cortland to contend with more than once a year.

the fact is, good teams tend to have lousy non conferences, and the bad teams that play them have the tough ones. it all has a funny way of balancing out if i do say so myself.... cupcake loading also doesnt always happen on purpose chief, there's only so many options in this sport for scheduling, both regionally and abroad.

Your conference?? Sorry...outside of Elmira...average at best. Good teams tend to schedule weak teams...really...Elmira? Norwich? Plattsburgh? Middlebury? Oswego? Give me a break. At least have a clue what you are talking about. Yea so many options...and every year Utica keeps the same cupcakes and wonders why they get left out. Maybe if Utica, here's a funny one, TRAVELED they could play better teams then Salve and Westfield...its just a ka-winki-dink year after year Uticas schedule is a joke...right...

I keep counting 26 games, but it looks like they have four hobart games, so I assume that one of them is wrong.

According to that schedule, the game they play at 7pm on January 27 will count twice. They'd better hope they win that game ;)

But seriously, even with that solved... they still appear to be playing a Regular Season conference game against Manhattanville during the ECAC-W Championship Game. Which clearly cannot be the case :P

Chances are real good that is actually 2/24/2012

Re: 2011-12 Schedules

Your conference?? Sorry...outside of Elmira...average at best.

Me thinks you neglect to give Neumann the respect it has earned with a national championship and an additional appearance in the NCAA tournament over the last three years. I'd put them at least slightly above average based on that information.

Now, let me reiterate that I am disappointed in the number of non-conference road games and had hoped to see a more challenging non-conference schedule, but by my count Utica has a minimum of nine games scheduled against teams that made the NCAA tournament last year (ten if they play Plattsburgh in the Cardinal Classic).

Where they do luck out in the conference schedule for 2011-12 is that Elmira and Neumann both have to travel to Utica twice. Both of those teams dominated the Pioneers last year, but playing the majority of those games at home this coming season certainly cannot hurt.

Remy, by the way, who did Plattsburgh play on the road in their non-conference schedule last year? I see a single game against Skidmore (a 4th place team in a one-bid league). Talk about a bunch of road warriors...

Sure, there were challenging home games against Norwich, Elmira and Williams - no arguments from me on those - but who else? Middlebury was a 5th place team in a one-bid league last year... Curry? Yup, they made the tournament and were also on Utica's home schedule. A six win St. John's team?

Neumann? According to you they are average... at best.

Me thinks, as a lot of people do, Neumann was the benefit of a nice road to the Championship once they got by Plattsburgh....if they didn't get bounced out in the FIRST round maybe.

And what was their record in the NCAA outside of Oswego?? Goose egg....And taking the benefit of 6 games against 2 teams and 8 against 3.....that leaves you how many against real opponents? Hell Plattsburgh plays 4 games against 2 of the Final Four teams. 3 of 4 on the road....5 of your 8 are at home...

Do you really want to go there? In 2009-2010 Plattsburgh played 10 games against top 15 teams (8 Non Conf) of those 10 only 1 (Oswego) was at home....ALL 8 NC games against ranked teams were not at home...spare me. Utica doesn't barely has 8 away games TOTAL this year...Over the past 5 (including 2011-2012) Utica has played a whopping 11% of their games NC road games. ( I even included NC neutral site games) While 34% of their schedule has been made up of NC home games. Now I can go farther and point out of those NC games how many teams were actually ranked at the end of the year, but the % would be much much less....

Plattsburgh over that same span has played 21% of their NC games at home and 20% of their NC games away. And I’m going to go out on a small limb here and say Plattsburgh’s % of games against ranked opponents is probably just a smidge higher then Utica's in those percentages.

Utica’s NC schedule had a whopping .470 winning % with an average conference finish of 3.7...That includes the powerhouses of Franklin Pierce (x2) for their NE10 Championship in a NO bid league, Westfield another no bid league and the duel 1 and 2 of Curry and Wentworth from the NE...

Plattsburgh’s NC schedule had a winning % of .590....with an average conference finish of 2.4....BTW, Middlebury was the 3 seed, not 5th...an the same 4th place Skidmore team who beat the Soaring Eagles....

Plattsburgh had 1 game with a non perennial conference (ECACE,ECACW,MIAC,NCHA,NESCAC) Utica had 6 of their 13 games against teams the powers of the ECAC NE, Northeast 10, and MASCAC

And no I'm not sold on the ECAC West. Never have been. You can go back to when RIT was "the" team and they did just what Utica is doing...loading up on a cupcake NC schedule. How many titles did that get them? Like I said, if Utica stumbles against their Conference opponents, don't come whining when they have such a great NC record....and don't get in.

Re: 2011-12 Schedules

I don't see how most of the recent topics bear further discussion, especially since the '10-'11 season is entirely in the books at this point. Plattsburgh's reciprocating NC relationships cause cyclical imbalances (both ways) in its numbers of home and away games. The criteria laid out by the NCAA indicate that Plattsburgh's SOS helped its tournament position, while Utica's hurt its Pool C chances. All of these things were discussed at length back when they were far more relevant.

Where Utica's '11-'12 schedule is concerned, I would suggest that timing might play a role. The SOS situation didn't crystallize as a major uh-oh until late last season; many teams would have all but locked down their schedules by that point. Even if Heenan still happened to have some wiggle room at his end, he would've been hard-pressed to find quality teams still looking for a game. If Utica is going to harden up its NC schedule, then '12-'13 seems to be a more realistic opportunity to do it.
