Happened in one of the first round games, too -- they ran nearly 2 minutes of spots before the feed came back - just in time for the TV timeout! :mad:

The two Bertuzzi penalties were bunk. Fortunately, I can console myself with the belief that Bertuzzi should be receiving multiple phantom calls every game since the lockout, since if there was any justice in the world, he'd be spending his winters being kicked out of beer league games instead of getting a NHL paycheck. I've had Marchment, Gary Suter, and Claude Lemiuex on my team's roster. Guess what being a heel/thug. in the NHL gets you? Phantom calls.

Other than that, Kronwall's hook, Cleary's slash and Filppula's trip were all legit, and Bertuzzi's 3rd period nonsense was canceled out by Stuart tossing Heatley into Howard apparently being a penalty for not defying physics.

You don't win a lot of games losing 62% of faceoffs and giving up 45 shots, but if it helps you to sleep at night, believe what you want. I expect 26 Detroit powerplays in the next two games anyway.

That about sums it up. If you are going to call cheap, phantom penalties, call them both ways. Wings had too many legit calls to moan about officiating, even though one 5x3 in each game basically helped SJ win both games since they scored tying or winning goals. I don't know how much it would matter if the officiating was even. They are getting beat to the puck and can't outmuscle the Sharks. Losing 66% of your faceoffs, especially while short handed doesn't help much either.

So for as bad as the officiating was in the Wings game, AHL ref Kyle Rehman put on quite the exhibition last night in Chicago.

Kevin Doell gets KO'd just over eight minutes into the game by Garrett Stafford's elbow... no call was going to be made (happened 10' from Rehman), AND he wasn't going to blow the whistle because the "Wolves had a scoring opportunity." Double you tee eff? Had Texas gained control, he wasn't going to blow the play dead anyway.

*edit* They showed Doell sitting on the bench (not sure why he wasn't shipped off to the ER right away), and it looked like he didn't know what day it was. He tried to focus on where the faceoff was taking place and got woozy while sitting.

Then Rehman decided in the first OT that the puck was "kicked in," except it went in the Texas Stars net off a Stars players skate.

OT H C. Chelios 2.00 Diving (64.2) 10:25

Peters came around the net, grabbed Cheli in a choke hold and sat Chelios down on the ice. How it was diving, no one could figure out.


Rehman is atrocious. I'm surprised he's not calling NHL games with his stellar officiating the last two games. :rolleyes:

If they're not going to call cross-checking to the head (yes, I understand it's "defending your goalie", and I am all for that, but within reason), they're not going to call anything as trivial as a pick. Or a dive.

I can't root for a player to get injured...any chance Carcillo could get arrested for drug trafficking, or something, and get booted out of the league?

You can do it as long as another teammate is doing it to the same guy at the same time...the best part is you get a PP!!!!
