That game belongs on a DVD of how not to work a game. Oy that was bad for the stripes.

I was watching Breaking Bad and therefore missed most of that period, but I did happen to catch the broken stick. I don't know if you're bemoaning the broking stick as a bad call or as bad luck, but assuming its the former:

The way the rule is written (whether you like the rule or not)... how does that not get called? Depending on the other calls, I could understand people being upset, but the only call I was able to see was a no brainer.

I was assuming the broken stick he's referencing is the Lidstrom one that pretty much led to the GWG. That's just bad luck.

That was bad luck.

However, the reffing, both ways, was bad.

I figured as much, too.

Although I do think its worth brining up the topic anyway, since I'm a little iffy on the definition of the penalty. Sometimes sticks break. It can happen on a hard shot or a soft shot.

Likewise, it can happen on rough slash, or a weak slash. Seems odd that you could get sent to the box for a slash when all that might have happened is that you caught a stick that was two slappers from breaking anyway.

Didn't see it mentioned on here, but did anyone else's feed from Versus go crazy for around 30 seconds in the 3rd? Screen froze up, went blank, showed a Masterpiece grill commercial for around 10 seconds, then went back to the game just in time to see Nabokov make a big save.

Weird.

I am sure you'd be hard pressed to find a red wings fan to take solace in the fact that the officiating was "bad" for the sharks when they had 12:54 of powerplay time including a 5 on 3 compared to 4:28 for the wings.

Don't get me wrong, it was majorly tilted towards the Sharks the 3rd, but overall, it's been bad.

Yes. I assumed they lost the feed, went to some default dump (an ad, naturally) and then immediately dropped back into coverage.

It was only about 10 seconds here.

you know I understand the refs are fallible and that chicken s... calls happen. But at least call the chicken sh... both ways. SJ got away with murder interfering so as to slow the wings progress on the breakout throughout the game.
The refs didn't call an even game. Though sure sj played well. But well enough to win, not!

You'd have a point if you weren't wrong. The terrible officiating went both ways...and I have no dog in this fight.

LOL. The Wings run picks better than most NBA teams. You, of all people don't want to talk about interference.

The two Bertuzzi penalties were bunk. Fortunately, I can console myself with the belief that Bertuzzi should be receiving multiple phantom calls every game since the lockout, since if there was any justice in the world, he'd be spending his winters being kicked out of beer league games instead of getting a NHL paycheck. I've had Marchment, Gary Suter, and Claude Lemiuex on my team's roster. Guess what being a heel/thug. in the NHL gets you? Phantom calls.

Other than that, Kronwall's hook, Cleary's slash and Filppula's trip were all legit, and Bertuzzi's 3rd period nonsense was canceled out by Stuart tossing Heatley into Howard apparently being a penalty for not defying physics.

You don't win a lot of games losing 62% of faceoffs and giving up 45 shots, but if it helps you to sleep at night, believe what you want. I expect 26 Detroit powerplays in the next two games anyway.
