Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

People still listen to that station? (though, Felger and Maz were praising the hockey knowledge of Mike Milbury today...I think I'm switching back to the iPod for the drive home from now on)
I was pretty shocked about that too. I was far more entertained by Toucher and Rich's defense of hanging up on Bill Walton.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I had no idea Dino Ciccarelli had 1200 career points

1200 points in 1232 games...not bad at all...

Him over Gilmour and Oates, among others, is a friggin' joke.

Now we're going to have every jack*** that played in the 80's in, since everyone and their brother averaged a point a game then. Bernie Nicholls should be next. Jesus.

I heard Milbury say that he didn't think Seguin was fast. Which means he'll be the fastest player in the NHL.

Mike Milbury is one of the worst evaluators of talent that has ever lived.

I guess the Blackhawks aren't going to repeat next season.

Toews was named cover boy for the EA NHL 11.

That and Pierre McGuire likes Sidney Crosby... slightly. :D

At this point, he might shrug and go back to counting money in his hospital bed.

Ben Affleck: [ready to act but haven't heard "Action"] So? Action, Gus or what?
Gus Van Sant (counting money): Christ, Ben, I said I'm busy.

Horton being Centered by the likes of Savard/Bergeron/Krejci will increase his production. I wouldn't be shocked if he hit 35 this coming season. He never really had anyone in Florida.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Roughly one year ago, Bruins fans were excited to trade away a lazy forward who floats and doesn't put in a whole heck of a lot of effort if things aren't going their way but still puts up pretty good numbers, now y'all are super excited to obtain that same type of player?

I guess when you realize needing goals is quite important to win, you'll be happy to get a player that can, occasionally, score.

Yup, this. Horton is physical... When he wants to be. For those of you thinking Tallon got "bent over" the Panthers now have four picks in the first 36 this year and two in the top 15 and this year's draft is rather deep.

Stephen Weiss was Florida's leading scorer last year and he saw his production take a tumble when Horton and Booth missed a pile of games. Saying this trade was a "robbery" is nuts. Florida obviously needs to rebuild their stupid organization as their farm team sucks dong as much as their NHL team does. This trade helps them out immensely and Tallon is a good enough GM to start the rebuilding process.

Exactly....the 80s was the highest scoring time period in NHL history. Numbers like Ciccarelli's have to be taken in context. He was a very good player; a great one who should be in the Hall of Fame? No way.

Then again, though, the NHL has set the lowest bar for induction of any of the 4 "major sports" so I can't say this is incredibly surprising.

It's amazing, isn't it?

I'm not fond of Mazz or Felger but their ending segment to their show is miles better than the lame Whiner Line.

I need to figure out a way to listen to my iPod on the way home as well. Sigh.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I look at the Boston/Florida trade like this:

Boston needed scoring and had an overstock of defense and picks. Florida has a scorer who needed to leave and is trying to stockpile picks. Wideman was more of a salary-evening throw in as far as I'm concerned. Considering how godawful he was last year (until the playoffs anyway) I don't think he'll be missed by Boston.

Both teams got what they wanted. If Horton puts up 30+ Boston gets that scoring threat they so woefully lacked last season. If he puts up 25-30 they get another solid, two-way forward who can score and dish when needed. If Wideman returns to his 50-point play, then Florida gets a good puck-moving defenseman who's still young. If he sucks as bad as last year, they still have the #15 pick. Campbell, to me, is a nice throw-in for Boston and not much more.

The draft is deep, but from what I've read there isn't a tremendous amount of difference between picks 12-13 through the low 30's, meaning they're not likely to get a player at 15 that's significantly better than at 32. There's the Hall/Seguin level, the second tier of the Fowler/Gundbfjkurgqrson/Gormley/Skinner types, and then a solid 1st round that's fairly even.

Frankly, it's they type of bold move Chia has been seemingly reluctant to make. As long as he doesn't ruin it with another moronic contract like the ones he gave to Thomas or Ference, I'm 100% ok with him.

Is Atlanta even trying anymore? Did Dudley get some lube with that deal? Sopel has no or negative value. Aliu was in the ECHL last year. Morin was Atlanta's best forward prospect.

All you need to know about pushing the cap is that there's always a pack of retards running a hockey franchise, usually in the south that will gleefully bend over.
