Great move. We get a quality NHL player for the 15th pick basically. Wideman leaving doesn't phase me much. The fans have been calling for his head for months. I liked him, but resigning Sidenberg and hopefully Boychuck will ease that pain a bit.

But,but but... who will talk radio hosts blame for every problem the Bruins have if Wideman is gone?!?!?

Agreed but they are going to need someone else on the blueline. I don't have a lot of faith in Hunwick or Ferrence. A dream situation would have the Bruins somehow getting the 3rd overall from CBJ and getting Cam Fowler but the price would just be way too high.

Well, for the next year or two, it's Wideman's "lingering presence". After that, the revisionist history comes in, and it's the lack of Wideman's offensive spark.

Don't you have the 2nd overall from Toronto?

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Roughly one year ago, Bruins fans were excited to trade away a lazy forward who floats and doesn't put in a whole heck of a lot of effort if things aren't going their way but still puts up pretty good numbers, now y'all are super excited to obtain that same type of player?

I guess when you realize needing goals is quite important to win, you'll be happy to get a player that can, occasionally, score.

Except for Dennis and Callahan where it will be Obama's fault and Planet Mikey where this is somehow related to Manny's inability to run out grounders.

Pains me to say it but I think Chiarelli bent Tallon over on that deal. Oh well.

the bruins also got rid of kessel because he wanted too much money and then gave that same amount to lucic. they also signed thomas to an astronomical deal and threw in a no trade clause for the hell of it.

Many sources say the Thomas situation is heating up, and a deal isn't far off. I liked Kessel overall, I was disappointed to see him leave, but I understand why they dealt him.

Because a 3rd line energy guy and old declining goalie needed 9+M in cap hits????

Who the heck is going to take Thomas and that deal off the Bruins' hands? Omar Minaya isn't available.

the ability to get rid of thomas will probably make or break chiarelli's tenure which is on pretty thin ice right now. i've always imagined it would be easiest to ship him to washington, but i suppose they rather send him west - which is most of the rumors.

i dont watch enough bruins games during the season to comment on his overall level of defense. but in the playoffs, i thought widemen was a huge sparkplug for them (at least offensively)

What would the Bruins be looking at in return for Thomas. I cant see this being anything more than a salary dump. Hell, Id take a bag of pucks for Thomas at this point.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I just can not fathom people really thinking that Tim Thomas has value. He's declining, old, coming off surgery, and has one of the worst contracts in hockey. Oh, and there are about 15 goalies looking for maybe 3-5 open jobs this fall.

Why would Washington want Thomas?? They have Valarmov and Nuevirth cheap, why trade for Thomas and muck it up?

Because Washington is probably one of a few teams Thomas would waive his NTC for. And the talks about Thomas to the Sharks are just as ridiculous. We're up against the cap already, have about 45 goalies that are almost ready for the NHL and we're going to take on a long term contract that's asiningly stupid? Especially when, like you said, there's plenty of goalies that we can pick up for cheap and just rotate goalies hoping one finds a groove during the season.
