Holland had to snap him up before July 1 when Yzerman planned on giving him a call.

Bettman sounds much better in conversation (like this) than he does when it's just him speaking to an audience where he sounds arrogant.

Ron McLean to the rescue!

That head-to-head matchup with Gary Bettman on Wednesday? It was nothing compared to Ron MacLean's lunch on Thursday.

A day after he battled the NHL commissioner on Hockey Night in Canada, MacLean sprang from his seat while having lunch with Don Cherry to help rescue a man attempting suicide in the Delaware River in Philadelphia.

"It was an unbelievable scene," MacLean said. "So I get back to the table, Grapes sits down and says, 'Well that's just great. I'm telling a wonderful story about Dave Bolland, enjoying a nice lunch and you go running down to the river.

"What is this?"

Shockingly enough... Bettman came off pretty well in that interview. Something tells me MacLean wasn't clearing those questions with him beforehand.

Shawn Thornton is getting a two-year contract from the Bruins worth a little over $800K a year. Believe it or not, that's actually a raise of about $300K per year for him.

My question: WHY?
