Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Harold Ballard once tried to incinerate all the Maple Leafs' Stanley Cup banners. I think he tried to **** off his fan base.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Client Jaroslav Halak traded to the St. Louis Blues for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz.

John MacLean to be named new head coach of the New Jersey Devils this afternoon.

And he'll be fired 3/4 of the way through next year so Lou can hog all the glory.

Bertuzzi resigns for two years in Detroit, thus avoiding a question of what I would do if the Wings ever managed to have no one on the roster I dislike.

What did he resign from? Or did he re-sign?

In terms of value, I think this is a pretty fair deal; Montreal is dealing from a position of strength and addressing a position of weakness. Whether or not they chose the right guy remains to be seen, and will be Gauthier's legacy.

You think? I kind of feel like I imagine Jack's mother did when her dopey kid came home with a bag of magic beans.

After reading about some of the stuff he did, I'm surprised they still had a fan base by the time he died. Of course, I'm sure a lot of what we know now was spun back then, so many fans didn't know about it. Also, Leafs fans are crazy (not necessarily a bad thing).

Ah, but those magic beans eventually led to gold, no? :D

I do think it's fair value. Just my .02, but consider:

* Goaltenders aren't exactly at a premium right now. Plenty to be had via free agency.

* Goaltender's dont being back much in value anymore, anyhow. And why should they? It's been a while since a Cup winner had an elite goalie. Lots of talk during the playoffs about the diminishing importance of the goalie. Halak wants between 4-5M per year. You think he deserves that? Ask Vancouver how happy they are with Luongo's deal. Or Chicago with Huet's. Or Boston with Thomas.

* Lars Eller is a very good, near ready prospect. That's not hyperbole. He was outstanding overseas and he handled himself well for his first year here. He also fills an organizational need (Center; and one with at least some size and solid two way play).

* As for Schultz, a big guy who likes to fight? On our D? Yes please. He's a couple of years away, but yes.

* Once can not ignore the cap implications for Montreal with this deal, either. Halak would've cost too much. For better or worse, Carey is the man, and how much is he realistically going to cost next season? This gives them a shot at retaining Plekanec if they wish.

Only time will tell...but I'm not disappointed. Sad to see Halak go, but we all knew someone was heading out the door.

You didn't think you got Jeff Schultz in this deal, did you? ;)

Ian Schultz is a forward.

Aargh, misread that. Not as helpful, but also not the centerpiece. I thought his goal/assist totals were a bit gaudy for a Defensemen.

Oh trust me, Leafs fans knew what Ballard was doing, and we weren't happy about it at all.

CBC reports Danny Briere & his son were involved in a car accident early today:

Philadelphia Flyers star centre Danny Briere and his 9-year-old son Cameron have escaped serious injury in a collision with a tractor-trailer on a New York interstate.

The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 81 just north of the New York-Pennsylvania line.

Briere and his son were taken to a Binghamton hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released. The driver of the truck, Kenneth R. Azzarella, 52, of Nineveh, N.Y., also was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.

Considering Gauthier said on TSN today that he had no contact with Halak or his agent to even ask for contract demands between the end of the season until today when he told him he was traded, he must have been a mind reader to know that.

This is just another round of "We love Carey Price" in the Montreal front office, and he's going to have about one week before he hears "We want Halak" in French raining down from the rafters.

At least the Sharks won't be the only ones making dumbass moves in net.

Stupid I-81.

(Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Briere, but that doesn't mean I want him getting in a car accident.)

fantastic, I am heading up 81 next week to catch the NHL draft in Manch...and to visit family and friends.

I'll restate, as a caveat, that I'm not sold on the deal; only that I think that this is about as good of a deal that was going to be had. Now, to your point about Gauthier not speaking with Allan Walsh, it is important to remember that Halak had arbitration rights. Additionally, Walsh has not exactly been stable in dealing with the Canadiens. Finally - when Kari Lehton gets a deal that pays him more than 3M per season with Dallas, do you really think that Halak is going to be asking for anything less?

Some of the stuff reminds me of the crap that Tom Yawkey pulled when he was alive. Miserable bastiges, the both of them.

I think Down Goes Brown has convinced me to take the Leafs as my #2 NHL team.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I'm looking forward to the draft to see if Burke makes any moves. I like Burke a lot. He's very entertaining, and I appreciate his bluntness.

I agree about Burke, and expect he'll be wheelin' and dealin' before and during the draft.

Wish I felt the same way about Wilson -- still don't think he's the best coach for the Buds. :(

From DGB: "If you'd like to make an offer, send it my way during the first two rounds. Seriously. Just come on over and pull up a chair. I'm going to be looking for something to kill the time."
