2010 Minnesota State Fair

Re: 2010 Minnesota State Fair

Not interested. If I wanted to watch a bunch of fat people wandering around...I'd go to Wisconsin.

why don't you just go to Wisconsin and stay there?

The Fair was awesome opening day! We got there around 8:45 in the morning, ate an amazing amount of food, and had a great day. This was probably my 20th MN State Fair, and it's great every single year. Quiz wants to come back every year.

Saying you like county fairs better than the state fair is like saying you like the high school section tournaments better than the state tournament.

While the state fair is better that country whatever days, I'd rather watch section semis with Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Benilde and Wayzata than some crappy section 1 team get steamrolled at state. ;)

Re: 2010 Minnesota State Fair

The Anoka County Fair sucks. State Fair all the way.

I'll be there on Wednesday for Weird Al. I'll also be completely hammered.

Re: 2010 Minnesota State Fair

For county fairs, the Carver County one was always a favorite of ours when we went to those types of fairs. A buddy lived in St. Boni, so we'd tailgate at a park in Waconia, hit the fair, and then the bars in Boni, then crash at my buddy's. Always a great time.

I myself don't get the fascination with the state fair. It's too overcrowded, is a pain in the neck to get to (possibly do to the overcrowding), and is over-hyped (I swear every single media is there).

The county fairs have just as good food, the lines aren't anywhere near as long, the concerts are just as good. Heck, at the Carver County fair you get Rodeo for free.

For me the state fair doesn't compare to the county fairs.
I've been there a couple times and it was okay. Carver County fair doesn't have all the crazy food on a stick things. Plus a rodeo isn't on my to do list...yawn.

It was all about the carny games for us. We'd do stupid things like form an offensive line for the football throw, dollar bet between us on the games, etc. And they usually had a decent band at night (I think Uncle Chunk played there once; they're great).

When I was at Mankato the Nicollet or something county fair was usually a good time, even if it mythically resulted in my cutting myself climbing over a mythical fence to mythically not pay the mythical entry fee.

Re: 2010 Minnesota State Fair

But there is Summit on a stick at the MSF. I saw it yesterday and the beer was cold, and liquid, just like it should be. :)

They have a red bull freezie pop. And Coke on a stick. And Snickers on a stick. And good milk shakes. Basically, the MN state fair is > any other

If its hard to get to, you are doing it wrong.

this is a smart statement by JF. Write it down, because they don't come often. :p

MetroTransit offers RIDICULOUSLY easy transportation to get there. For a few bucks, you get there easy. I understand the appeal of the county fair, but you can be in and out of there in two hours. The State Fair, you can go multiple days and still not see it all.

Re: 2010 Minnesota State Fair

I'm pretty sure county fairs don't get Tim McGraw or Carrie Underwood.

Saying you like county fairs better than the state fair is like saying you like the high school section tournaments better than the state tournament.

In the last few years I've seen Joe Nichols, Travis Tritt, and Josh Turner, to name a few, all of which I consider to be loads better than Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood.

Bigger isn't always better. The State hockey tourney might have the bands and bigger crowds, but sometimes the sectional games are better.

To take it further, Division II and Division III football games are better than the NFL. Junior Hockey games are better than the NHL.

Unless that didn't actually happen, or you're some sort of half-man/half-goat hybrid, you're probably better off using the word 'hypothetically' there.

Heck it's free from the U of M. Park at TCF Bank Stadium or behind Ridder and they shuttle you over on the secret U of M road. Also free shuttles at various spots in Roseville.

I try to go to the State Fair twice a year.

I thought that the bus price was refunded on the fair ticket.

The first lot I tired (394 and Hopkins Crossroad) was full, so I had to drive to another (Dunwoody) and it was STILL easy.

When did you go? I mentioned on GPL that before noon it was insane for a line, but after that, it was nothing.

Re: 2010 Minnesota State Fair

Parking at TCF is definitely what the cool kids do. Free, just a couple blocks off the highway, short trip to the fair, and you get to ride in a nice air-conditioned charter bus rather than having to deal with a city bus.

Re: 2010 Minnesota State Fair

Some places there's a charge and some are free like the U, Roseville High School and some other places around there.

I think we are on the same page. It costs something around $4-5 for a bus, but then your ticket is $4-5 cheaper. That sort of thing.

regardless, it beats parking over a mile from the entrance, having to walk and battle the traffic on Snelling when you leave, etc.

The State Fair is one of those things that shouldn't be cool to people our age and yet it is.

We always just drive to the U lots and take the free bus. Might do it differently if it was just one of us, but for three it makes the most sense. Also, if you buy your tickets in advance at a discount at Cub (like we do), you don't get the discount for riding the express buses.
