2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Acadia was second in the AUS standings (behind UNB) at the end of last season, and were knocked out out of the playoffs by the eventual CIS champions - Saint Mary's University out of Halifax. Acadia's home ice is Olympic-sized, so most seasons they have a good skating team by CIS standards. They've added a couple of key recruits out of the Western Hockey League, so they are upping their physical game. That being said, they've had an inconsistent preseason so far this year.

I agree with you FreddyFoyle....as a UNB alum I've seen first hand the quality of CIS hockey, especially in the AUS.

Canadian university hockey teams are, in general with some exceptions, less skilled than NCAA squads, but are made up of older, bigger and more physical players. At this time of year, many CIS teams have been playing games for a couple of weeks now (UNB has played 6 - 6W, 40GF, 13GA) and are at a bit of an advantage over NCAA teams, many who have only recently begun official practices. That being said, teams from the AUS (Atlantic Canada) have for many years produced very good teams (UNB, Acadia, Saint Mary's, Moncton some years back) that can compete at the NCAA level. I think that UNB, which has been a power in the CIS for several years now under coach Gardiner MacDougall, would fare quite well if they were dropped into Hockey East for a full season of play.

Hmmmm Ride 120 miles with you for an exhibition game or stay home with my nephew, play Wii and watch the Ryder Cup and NFL...

Tough call.

Without the 240 mile round trip it might be a contest. Then again, my nephew would get bored by the middle of the second period and want to do something else. Hockey isn't his game.

8. I took him to an NYA game but he tired of that pretty quickly. I was planning to take him to a Pirates game, but that was back when I could drive a car. :p It's kind of hard to take him places when I can't drive.

Seat backs for the entire lower bowl next year. Is there new glass?

I didn't really look at the glass, however there is also a new banner in the rafters. There is a frozen four banner now showing the years we went.
