You know Maine hockey is back when you hear Mahoney describing the jerseys before the game.

It sounds like the band and crowd are excited for the start of the season! It sure is nice to finally hear Dan and Larry again - here we go!!

you do realize that the segments is part of a sponsorship of maine hockey by the company Unifirst, right? and that Unifirst's business is providing uniforms and work-related apparel for companies?

so when people mention that Timmy's team is in the crapper (and getting worse), you tell us how many frozen fours and how many tournaments.

when Michigan ties a mediocre team once, you over look their history

I have a good idea that Michigan fans and UNH fans are still not jealous of Maine, wishing that Bentley had come to town

need a ride to the game, there champ? I will be traveling through in a few, let me know.

Well my first KIA response of the season! Living in Southern NH as I do, with many of my friends being UHN alums or people who cheer for the Mild ones! I can attest with great certainty that they continue to be very jealous of Maine Hockey! I know you won't believe this but many would trade the turtle neck man for one Tim W.!

Yup.......that's nostra, alright. LOL.......

Nostrajimus? So you think I'm a guy I've never heard of, on a board I had to use Google to find, who appears to have joined that site when I was still in ICU.

Makes perfect sense.

This game will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

A good win for the first game out of the gate while getting to use a big lineup in many situations. I know a lot of fans in the US don't like their teams playing the Canadian universities because of the rough style of play, but it sounded like Maine handled it well when Acadia was getting a bit out of control.

A good start to the season for the Black Bears - and they lived!

in response to a post a couple of pages ago about the goaltending situation. i talked to the player before oullette was injured as far as i know. He earned it from all indications.

As far as sirman being his new pet, i doubt that will be the case. whitehead knows this year and maybe next (if nyquist stays) are his shot to get another few years of leeway if the team goes in the crapper again. for that reason he will do whatever necessary to win games IMO.

I have so much to say about the game i don't even know where to begin. For starters: liedermark and pryor are junk. as far as the first year are concerned: amestoy and swavely and o'connor were....eh. Anthoine was AWESOME. corkum played pretty well, looks like he's got a scorer's touch, that was a wicked snap shot glove side high for his goal.

goaltending and defense were suspect at best. wasn't impressed with sullivan at all. he was so far out of position on that goal it was embarrassing.

on another note, i don't think priceless is nostra, jeff. stylistically the posting isn't very similar. i'm interested as to how you made this connection

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

It was throwback game, from the days of Walshy and Canadian college teams. Acadia was rough and out of shape. They hit high and stood around alot. Joey Diamond took a guy down who was a head taller then him with ease, I knew he would:D . Their coach whined after every period, Bunyon kicked him off the ice after the 2nd period. It was a great way to start the season from a fans perspective . Corkums goal was a beauty, as was Nyquists. Sirman wasn't tested and the goal Sullivan let in , was Sullivan way out of position. Lets put it this way, goaltending is a huge question mark.

I buy that. Not to just put all my eggs in one newspaper article's basket, but Sirman's lackthereof last year was more confusing than frustrating. By the I mean he entered with higher praise than several past 'tenders who became big gamers and fan favorites. That's got to tell you that on some level, with some group of know-it-alls (no offense KIA :p ), more than one person thought he had a pedigree to be successful at this level. Physical AND emotional conditioning go a long way!

Like put Matt Duffy at forward, again?? :D ;)

OK, but can we keep in mind that this was one exhibition game, and you're jumping to quick conclusions about guys who, mostly, have barely suited up for Maine. Most freshmen are no where near their peak collegiate condition; the schemes, speed, and team chemistry are still new so they're learning on the job. Not everyone is going to dazzle you the split second they walk on the ice. Tanner House scored 1 goal as a freshman. Josh Soares scored 2. We all had big expectations for Joey Diamond last year and he found himself benched around midseason. These things take more than a day to develop. I guess I don't know what you expected to see.

And calling Pryor "junk" after the first exhibition game of the year is quite bold, seeing as you're talking about a defenseman who is playing forward despite only having played 6 career games at his natural position and is coming back from a nasty injury. As a healthy D-man with regular reps, the Ducks don't seem to think he's junk. I would let the guy play more than a dozen shifts before putting a red X over his name.

Eh, yea, but again....first time suiting up at this level, so for him to go 7/8 in his first appearance, knowing that he was ideally our #3 option...I'm not too stressed.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Had a lot of fun at he game tonight.

-Thought Sirman played a B-B+ game. Made some nice saves. Sullivan more like a C game. Wasn’t tested, looked like he was playing in a different game on the Goal he gave up.

-Top line looked good.

-Corkum looked great for a guys who’s career was once in question.

-In contrast to another poster I liked Amestoy. He was around the puck whenever he was on the ice. Reminded me of Joey Diamond in the Blue & White game last year.

-Wish I saw more of the Dee/Diamond/Abbott line.

-Nice mullet on the dude from Acadia.

-Can’t wait so see Ouellette in action, really exited for the season, and realize its only the first game of the year and the team will look totally different in a month or two.

-What did you guys think of the line with the Swedes and Amestory & and former Jr. Monarchs line of Beattie/Mangene/Shemanski?

That's a good comparison. Before the puck ever dropped, I had anticipated a Mangene-breed. Might not be a lamplighting threat, but he's going to be fast, fiesty, and force team's to make mistakes that turn into Maine chances! Glad to hear you saw that kind of potential :)

-Wish I saw more of the Dee/Diamond/Abbott line.

Living in the shadows of the Nyquist-House-Flynn line will be the best thing to happen to this trio because they're going to get a lot of favorable matchups...I'm excited to see what they put together :D
