2010 Division III Commitments

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Absolutely, but the rules require that you dress at least two goalies for each game, and right now we've got one.
Well then just have Kyle Thomas strap on the pads. Please?

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

I would imagine that Norwich is looking at at least a few goalies. They need two. Also, they want to be prepared in case something like the Laveau situation happens again.

McShane doesn't tend to overrecruit. If he can bring in two, that will be good enough. If one bolts, he'll replace him late in the cycle. That's how the Laveau situation went down.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

That's indeed a fact. Klinger is a great success story - from walk on practice goalie as a Freshman to First Team All-American and National Champion as a Senior. Who knows if he would have developed into what he did if there was another, highly touted, goalie around.

I just read about him on Norwich's site, love to hear about kids who work hard and make it despite the odds. One question, in general, can anyone try out for a D3 team as a walk-on or do they need to be invited?

my experience at Oz in the mid 80's......we had about 6 weeks of dryland training, about 60 guys showed up, by the 2nd week we were down to 35, week 3, 30 guys.......bottom line most guys cut themselves, then once ya get on the ice, it went from there, I think we had a few walk-ons make the team, most usually out hustled the rest of the guys.......

Most likely he has two already, but it is not public knowledge? Time wise and considering addmissions, grants, financial aid applications would it be too late to have recruits coming in for this season? Looking at players with very little funds for school must take a long time to figure out if they can actually become a part of a team?

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Just curious if anyone knows why more USHL and NAHL players don't go the D3 route unstead of D1. Checked the commitments and couldn't locate any going D3. I watch both D1 and D3 college hockey and have seen a lot of players that maybe could of benefited from playing D3 (more playing time, develope skill, ect). Most of the teams I follow like Norwich, Oswego, Plattsburgh, Babson, NEC seem to recruit in the Eastern Junior leagues and Canada.

A ton of NAHL players play DIII. They just aren't the first to be listed as they will generally exhaust all DI options before "settling" for DIII.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Jasper Strale looks like he might be a nice pick-up for Elmira.

27 goals ranked him top 10 in a league that has quite a few Division I commitments.

Looking forward to seeing him in the purple and gold next year.

Including his teammate who is headed to.... RIT ;)

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

A few coming into D3 from the SJHL:

Cameron Gibson (Humboldt) Wentworth
Garry Childerhose (Melfort) Geneseo
Travis Janke (Notre Dame) Norwich

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

they may need it, depending on their goaltending situation with Klinger gone.

Dubois looked okay in his few starts - if he can have a good off season and if the Cadets pick up another goalie or two just in case, this year can build on last. That being said, it's too bad Klinger doesn't have another year of eligibility.

Janke looks pretty good - we have a good history with the SJHL last year bringing in Allan, Schroeder, and Schroeder from Humboldt, and having brought in Tyler Stitt and others from the ND hounds, the route from the Prairies to Central Vermont has been a very nice pipeline for NU Hockey.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

I believe George Roll is calling Travis right now.

I'm sure the NU Coaching Staff would just as soon these leagues didn't publish these kinds of lists, but you can't blame them for marketing themselves as a place to get noticed by NCAA programs.
