2010 Division III Commitments

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Given the suspension of Canadian aid packages, is he still coming?

If he decommits it won't be because the cost changed.

Per the quotes/information we've seen - the current Freshman class was up to code (as is the current recruiting class) and this ruling only will affect current Sophmores/Juniors as far as money is concerned.

EDIT: I say that based on these quotes:

"So far with our commitments, they've all maintained their commitments," Schultz said. "The sanctions aren't going to impact them next year and they're committed to being students here and athletes here. The way I look at it, if you're going to decommit because of this, you're not going to Geneseo for the right reasons."

"This year's freshmen are now within compliance. Sophomores and juniors are the ones really affected."

"A top-tier Div. III program like SNC, Plattsburgh, Superior etc. starts looking really good when you weigh your options."

Look at Stevens Point too, signed a couple USHL players last year even tho they had a disappointing season.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Anyone know who is coming in for Norwich and at what postion?

This information does not get released by Norwich until after the students have shown up in the fall. Only sources are Junior team websites, etc. and since this is DIII there is no such thing as a letter of intent or any kind of binding committment.

A couple of years ago, the scuttlebut from the Junior web sites was that there was a hot shot D1 calibre goalie headed our way, but he never made it to NU -instead he enrolled at RIT, but he didn't seem to stick there. Don't know what happened to him

Umm, think it was Clarkson where he ended up...

You're right, of course. He doesn't seem to have gotten that much playing time there either.

Oh, well we got a national championship and he didn't :D

Yes you did, and for the 1st time in memory Clarkson finished in last place. But LeVeau is behind an NHL draft pick and a swiss cheese defense.

And who is to say that if he had gone to Norwich you would have played last Saturday?? Klinger got his ring and in two months, his commission. Congrats to him.

That's indeed a fact. Klinger is a great success story - from walk on practice goalie as a Freshman to First Team All-American and National Champion as a Senior. Who knows if he would have developed into what he did if there was another, highly touted, goalie around.

His development is what DIII athletics should be all about. Another question which I might throw out there - how many All-American goalies have majored in nursing?

Not sure about All-Amercian goalies and Nursing, but we did have two goalies studying nursing!

It is rumored that Clarke Saunders, G, Brockville (CJHL) is headed to Norwich. I can't confirm this, but he certainly looks like he could be a good get.
