2010 Division III Commitments

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

I've heard from two reliable sources that Michigan Tech forward Seth Soley, who played his high school hockey for Eau Claire Memorial (WI.) and spent one seson with Omaha in the USHL is transferring to St. Norbert's College. I just put up a post on my blog about his transfer with some links to stats, etc. He will be a Junior this season.

I knew SNC had a Tech kid coming in but wasn't sure who. Answered now. I'll add Soley and few others tomorrow. Sorry for any delays, was out of town for the weekend. Thanks for the info.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Elmira College has 2 kids from the Philadelphia Revolution coming in. I wonder how many of these kids make the team.

College Commitments
Joe Gagne 2009-10 Elmira NCAA D3 ECAC West
Shane Talarico 2009-10 Elmira NCAA D3 ECAC West
James Chamness 2009-10 Suffolk NCAA D3 ECAC NorthEast

I find it interesting that 2 kids from AAA are coming in vs playing Jrs. One of the benefits to kids that age out of Jrs is maturity.

Gagne and Talarico, to the best of my knowledge, are not recruits of the Varsity Hockey team. AtJHL teams have listed Elmira JV players in the past.

As for the two AAA recruits... that's Québec AAA. As I said before, Québec uses a different system, but their AAA is equivalent to Junior A elsewhere. The LHAAAQ Champion play with the Maritime Hockey league and CJHL champions (and a host team from one of the 3 leagues) for the Fred Page Cup, the winner of which moves on to compete with the Champions of the other regions (including leagues like AJHL, SJHL, BCHL, OJAHL, etc) for the Royal Bank Cup, the Canadian Junior A National championship. These kids are, indeed, coming out of the juniors.

This makes it look like Joe Gagne is going to be playing NCAA DIII Hockey at Elmira.

Along with already listed Jasper Strale & Casey Fratkin.

He came in Fall of 2008, with decent expectations. Over two seasons, he played in about 30 games for us, mostly on the 4th line. Never did much of anything that warranted additional ice time or a move up the depth chart. Didn't hit much, wasn't really a two-way forward, etc. Midway through this past season, he had a falling out with the coaching staff. The rumor is that they called him out for his poorer-than-usual play, and told him he was our worst forward at that point in the season. I guess he copped an attitude about it. Then when February rolled around and the coaches told him he could play against UW, he decided he'd rather stay in the press box.

So who knows what happened, but clearly things didn't work out. Perhaps the change of scenery will serve him well. I wish him better luck at SNC.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Looks like if SNC has any more recruits or transfers they will be able to field a team in suites in the stands. dont't know of any one not coming back and there always seems to be more incoming players then what is posted.

From my count, we are up to a 27 man roster already, with 16 forwards (heard that Langford is coming back for his final year), eight D-Men and 3 goalies. Hoping for at least one more D-man to get added yet.
You're right about the fact that there always seems to be a couple additions that never come to light until practice starts.
