I did ask an Akwesasne hockey coach today about Ian Boots, and he could not confirm the transfer to Oswego, but did say it made sense to him, and he believes Ian graduated from Salmon River High School in 2002 - EIGHT years ago, his DOB is Oct 17 1986, a little above average for a Junior. Researching a little more shows he was drafted by the Ontario Hockey League in 2002

What is up with going from 9 goals and 16 assits and being 5th in points as a Freshman to 1 goal and 3 assists in 18 games, Injury? If he wanted to be close to home why didn't he just go to Plattsburgh or Potsdam aren't they close to the Res up there.
A whole 70 miles difference from Hogansburg to Oswego then to Plattsburgh isn't much. Plus you have to figure in the $$$$ that Oswego brings to the table more then Plattsburgh. The chance to be an impact player on National contender rather then say Potsdam...who knows. Maybe growing up in the North Country maybe he didn't care for the Birds or Bears.... Doncherry maybe you could shed some light on things but is there a player on Oswego's team that Boots was friends with in the Junior system. Ian was a great player for Salmon and should be an impact player at Oswego and the national stage. Is he a replacement for Selleck....not sure I want to put that tag on him yet, but they've (Oswego) surely gone from a question mark to a legitimate contender offensively.
He is from the Canadian side (Ontario) of the Akwesasne Reservation, and has both Canadian Citizenship and Tribal status, he should qualify for the international aid package at either Oswego or Plattsburgh. My guess, he felt he could be a "bigger fish" at Oswego than Plattsburgh. He did play in Plattsburgh as a member of the Champlain Valley Junior A Elite team.
Well, or he could just have some friends that happen to play at Oswego. You never know why a guy might choose to go to a specfic place. The possible reasons anyone chooses to play where they do are nearly endless, and it's hardly the type of thing some googling can clarify.

If he graduated in '02, that would make him either a late '83 or an early '84, unless he graduated as a 15-year-old.
My bad in wording, I believe he left for a prep school (I heard the name of where, but do not remember), before graduating, the actual quote was "he went to Salmon River and then" ...
Norm while on the subject to you know why more Native Canadian hockey players are not playing D3 hockey. I recall over the years hearing of very good players in the pro system but not much about D1 or D3. I assume the very good players on the reservations go to to Junior A or Major Junior teams sometime during there development.

I don't know if there are players on Oswego that Boots knows...maybe Laganiere who played in the CJ for the years Boots was there. That said i know some guys who played with and against him.
Heard alot about him but never met the young man. A talented goal scorer is what I know for sure. As with any young man pursuing an education while playing a sport I wish him well.
Championship
A Elite 4, ISM 2 - Andrew Mather, Chris Laganiere, Brett Liscomb and Brennan Barker, into an empty net, tallied the goals for the A Elite in what was a very competitive game."We put on a little more pressure than they (ISM) did," Frechette said. "But, the game was extremely competitive."I was very pleased with how we competed and how we came together as a team this weekend."Barker, Devin Bancroft, Brock McBride, Jason Williams and goaltender Alex Archibald added assists."They took it to us at the beginning until we got settled in," Frechette said. "We stayed patient to the end of the game."Archibald made four or five saves off Grade A scoring chances. They actually took a 1-0 lead and we tied it 45 seconds later.
Semifinals A Elite 5, B Major Black/Red 3 - Scoring the five goals for the A Elite were Sean Flanagan, Liscomb, Langaniere, Mathieu Calabrice and Carl Hudson.McBride added two assists, while Ian Boots, Philippe Devault, Jason Williams, Mark Williams, Ryan Durocher, Bancroft, Flanagan and Kyle Taylor all added one.Charles Long was in goal for the victory.Craig Reyell tallied two goals and Jacob Engstrom one for the B Major Black/Red.Pat O'Neill picked up two assists, while Engstrom and Matt LeClair each added one. Joe Spadacinni was in goal."The B Major lost to the Northern Connecticut Wings, 7-3, the night before and then came back to beat them, 2-0, in the quarterfinals this moring," Frechette said. "That was a big win for them."It was then a fun experience and a good time having the B Major play the A Elite. It was also good for our program."
