2010 Division III Commitments

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Here's one for the "Newman" Knights, courtesy of the Alberta Junior Hockey League

The Sherwood Park Crusaders are pleased to announce that Defenseman D’Lane Sather has committed to the Newman University Knights of the ECAC.

D’Lane has been a leader on the blue line for the past three seasons with the Cru. Sather collected an impressive 51 points as a defenseman this season, second in League scoring amongst defensemen, and won the Crusaders Most Valuable D-Man Award.

Newman University is a perennial powerhouse in the ECAC West Conference (NCAA Division III). Newman won the National Title in 2009 and has built a very strong hockey tradition.

Congratulations to D’Lane and the Sather family and good luck to D’Lane in his education and hockey future at Newman.

I have to ask: Who maintains this list, and how can I be sure sure of its accuracy?

Not sure - found it through Google search. Here is the home page of the site - it lists this blog for whatever that's worth. It also says it gets it's info from internet sources but as mentioned in prior post, I believe a few of the listings to be suspect.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

Also, according to this list Middlebury has recruited 3 new goalies... despite graduating 1 out of the 4 they had last season.

Mulitz is listed on AJHL site as a recruit and BonDurant also correct. Don't know about he third goalie. Not sure if this is the case in this instance but I have noticed young men listed on this site who may have been admitted to the school through academics or another sport but they show up on this list as hockey "recruits"

Thank you for the information. I will try to find something more concrete about each of these potential student-athletes. When i do, I will list them on an individual basis. But having this list of names does make searching for information about them slightly easier. Thank you.

Re: 2010 Division III Commitments

A quick scan of the list and looking at points and the leagues they came from, Castleton and Hamilton jumped out a little bit as having some freshmen to watch for next season.

Castleton needs a lot of help, they were either winning by 5 or loosing by 5 and that will not work.

Hamilton was very good especially down the stretch if they add more talent look out they will be a serious contender.

Note: I see some Plattsburgh fan complaining on the USCHO site that I have listed 3 incoming goalies for Middlebury as “recruits” although only 1 of the 4 Midd goalies on this year’s roster is graduating. My take on the situation is that the 3 incoming goalies have prep/junior credentials that will place them in the mix for a spot on the Midd roster since 2 of the returning Midd goalies did not play even one second of time this past season, which means that 3 of the 4 goalie slots on the Midd roster are arguably in contention this coming season. In any event, I am taking a more inclusive approach this year as, in putting together this list last year, I exercised a little too much judgment and excluded the names of several players (including three Midd players) who nonetheless ended up making NESCAC teams.

This is a very valid point. I was less "complaining" and more "pointing out an oddity", but we all know that in DIII these oddities are somewhat to be expected. Much like Plattsburgh bringing in a goalie recruit (Foley) despite already having 3 freshman goalie, 2 of whole played significant amounts of ice time - although it has since been learned that the 3rd goalie has decided to look for a home elsewhere.

It'll be interesting to see how the goalie situation at Middlebury pans if all of these goalies are going to the Panthers. But I still will not post any of these new names on the list until I see a credible source to that effect, which I have as of yet been unable to locate.

Geneseo, Adrian and Plattsburgh look good on paper too on second glance.

Anyone know if there is a link to the 2009 recruits still available?

I was interested in going back and looking to see how "good" the top freshmen in the country this past season looked on paper from their junior stats.
