2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Here's my observations on Blaise's tenure here at Lowell. Forget the first year because those weren't his players. So there have been 2 4-year cycles of players both showing the same pattern of performance. The freshman year is horrendous, the sophomore and Junior years are good even improving and even giving us hope that a Senior year will bring a trip to the NCAAs. But alas both Senior years below average, under performing and major disappointment. Last years performance was just unacceptable. Now we are back on a 3rd 4 year cycle of players and look what we got. Past performance doesn't necessarily predict the future but it's looking like the same old thing again all over again.

Forget the "oh we've improved" nonsense these coaches can't do it and I am definitely in favor of a coaching staff change.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

IIRC, we have three home games left to help avoid what I'm sure is setting up to be the worst home record ever.

3 wins this season at home. This has to be the worst season in program history for home wins. 3 Frickin' wins?

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Maybe AAA can be a sponsor next year because we needed something to fix a flat tire tonight. Unfortunately, I don't think they have anything for hockey teams.

By far, that had to be one of the most embarassing home losses I've ever seen at the University in 16 years. The only one that was worse in my mind was a Rick Dipietro shutout his only year where they lost 5-0.

Another tough night for the Hawks. They looked like they were a step behind Maine for much of the night. If not for Boulanger it could have been much worse than 4-0. Very little offensive pressure, 10 shots through the first two periods isn't going to get it done. I wish this team would just shoot the puck. The PP continues to struggle and looked terrible again tonight.

An interesting line up for the Hawks with several regulars missing. Chaz mentioned Ferreira and Blair had the flu. I'm not sure about Wright and Scheu. Great to see Scott Campbell back on the ice. It's to bad he couldn't covert on that breakaway in the first period.

Another decent crowd tonight, pretty impressive considering how the season has gone.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Can we at least score a goal on TV today please :(.

It really sucks that the only time I was standing was for the starting lineups/national anthem.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Now we have people out sick as well as injured. Anyone esle think the karma of this team needs cleansing?

It was good to see the Soup back on the ice. Can't say that it was the worst effort of the year from my perspective but I did have a bunch of kids and adults that managed to stand and inconvieniently mill around a bit so we missed some of the stuff that could have been most painful- like the goals. A little hockey ettiquette would have been nice. Most 5 yr olds could wait til a whistle to go pee. Afterall they went 15 minutes ago. And does it take 2 shifts to stand there and organize which of you is going to go with the kid?

Sadly those who show up to 1 game with their kids do not have hockey etiquette.

My thing from last night was the people who showed up in the second period to sit right next to me in seats which were empty most of the season. Then left at the intermission only to sit behind me during the 3rd period. I guess I shouldn't be complaining though, that's $30 made for the university.

I had an idiot that decided he wanted to leave with about 8 or 9 minutes left in the third, got into the aisle ... and then just stood there not moving. When told to move, he said everyone else should stand. Never mind that you're the f'in idiot, it's everyone else's fault because you're an idiot apparently. God, I really hate stupid people.

The game sucked. Thank God for Boulanger because if it wasn't for him standing on his head at times ... this would have been much worse. The team came out (and I know this will shock you) ... flat! Again!

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Not quite.

http://www.uscho.com/stats/team/merrimack/mens-hockey/2006-2007/#gamebygame

MC that year won three HE contests-- and nothing else. UML has 4 wins overall this season, and a chance to win at least one more league tilt than that year's club.

Going by points we are worse then them right now.. that MC team had 8 pts in HE. 3W 2T.

After the play last night.. getting 3 points the rest of the season to make us not be the worst ever is going to be tough.

Actually, before UVM joined the league, Merrimack went 1-22-1 in 24 games with a 1.71 GFPG and a 4.33 GAPG  in 2004-2005 when Dennehy took over that sinking ship.

They finished that season 8-26-2 because of a cupcake NC schedule.

this reminds me of those "is it harder to lose than win" arguments... I always figure its easier to lose, and, imo, teams cratering out like this is proof enough to me.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Too bad we don't get more first round draft picks for being this bad!

Yes, it's not only the injuries, this team never seems to catch a break or bounce on the ice. If it can go wrong it usually does. I know good teams make their own breaks but this team has no luck what so ever.

Maybe the teams karma is rubbing off, my electricity just came back on after being out for 12 hours.

Les,

Northeastern tried that and it got them in trouble :p ;) :D

Before I start getting the hate mail, it's a joke folks. :)

While not technically eliminated if Vermont and us both lose tonight, each game from here on out is an elimination contest. This team genuinely comes out afraid & scared against Maine for some reason. The final TV game for the River Hawks this season and depending on how this turns out, they may not get one (at least at home) next year. This is simply about pride now and to have Timmy sweep you once again for the umpteen time would not look good in any circle.

It will be interesting to see how many of the missing guys from last night will be in the lineup tonight. Bob mentioned on the post-game show that one of them was on bereavement leave out of state, so it wasn't all physical.

It will be interesting to see how much of our bandwagon student section shows up because the game is on TV.

Not a very good performance by the Hawks, this team needs to get mad. The grumbling from the season tickets holders around me is getting louder and louder. I saw Marty M walking the concourse between periods, he can't be happy with what he saw last night.

Question for the UML faithful, who would you like to see get the job if/when Blaise is let go? I've always gone to a lot of UML games when Merrimack isn't playing and always would prefer seeing UML have a good team.

From the Lowell Sun:
While the River Hawks welcomed Campbell back, Matt Ferreira -- one of their hottest scorers lately -- and defenseman Ryan Blair were both out of the lineup with the flu, forward Colin Wright was sidelined with an injury, and forward Michael Scheu was home in Buffalo because of a death in the family.

It doesn't matter.

Blaise obviously can't get this program where it needs to go. That's a fact. In this case, making a change for the sake of change is warranted. I have no doubt the university will be thorough in it's search. The job has to be attractive to some up-and-coming candidates: Hockey East, state-of-the-art building and facilities. So we give someone else a chance because if we keep the status quo we can't hope anything will change.
