Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Nothing new here, we always get boned but that's how it is. I'm thinking Boulanger will only get better and Carr will be as good if not better.
It will be interesting to see what the team does with Massie in September of 2012 when he'll be a senior, and we'll have two juniors goalies (Carr and Boulanger) and Eiserman coming in as a frosh.

And BTW, a reminder, keep your fingers crossed that Scott Wilson (one of our best recruits for next season) actually makes it on campus as well. The team that took Melchiori from us is after him too.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

With the University closing at 2pm today, there will be no radio show again tonight.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Speaking of which, you can insert that famous Bob Lobel line now...

that line only applies when you have players that legitimately get away... so unless you have some idea on how we would have kept him, it doesn't work.

Hutton got the call-up today for San Jose today, he's backing up Niemi against Boston

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

I almost want to e-mail Blaise to ask when we get to a chance to hang 11 on somebody.

I'll take 11 over the next 3 games. :)

A very good effort by the Hawks last night. Boulanger played another solid game and he deserved better. They had plenty of scoring chances but nothing to show for it. It seems like the same old story over the past few years.

I just lost my entire post due to Vista. Can't wait for tax money.

Bob, you're right as usual. Seems like the same old song but the problem as has been stated many times before is the lack of offensive capitalization on these "USDA Grade A" chances. It's just flat out frustrating. Boulanger has played well over the past couple of games. Good to hear that Carr was dressed for last night's game. Friday's game is far too important and is a must win for the River Hawks if we want to talk playoffs. Carr should get the start if he is fully healthy. It's also must win for the River Hawks on so many other levels, especially after the last two HE home games which were stinkers and long-term goals for the team.

As far as playoffs, tonight's happenings in Burlington wasn't the best with Vermont getting the win but wasn't the worse if Providence had swept. Vermont starts a hellish schedule by going to Maine for two next week; not the place I'd want to go after the debacle in Durham tonight. You have to watch a replay of that game, especially the final minute; words can't justify that ending. They next play UNH and BU before playing us. PC has a game at home vs. BC, then travels to UMA with a 1-0-1 season series lead. UMA hosts BU on NESN, which is the Friday affair.

What concerns me is the sudden winless streak by UMA since their 6-0 tubthumping of Vermont last month. They are 0-3-1 in their last four and absolutely got embarassed this weekend against BC/Merrimack. By a strange scheduling quirk, they end the season with BC, Merrimack, and Maine. If not careful, they could very well go winless for the remainder and be tied for eighth, possibly with us. Even if we take care of business against PC and UVM, it may not be enough if one of those teams leapfrog to seventh. I think we have to split against Maine to get in but it's starting to look like it's going to be a race for four teams to grab the last two playoff spots.

Last comments on this weekend's happening...

While not set in stone, it's really starting to look like there will be playoff hockey in the Merrimack Valley for the first time since 2002. The sad reality is that it will be in Essex County at Merrimack College. With a five point lead and tiebreakers held against BC/BU, decent showings (splits) against Maine and UNH would all but guarantee home ice for the Warriors. I don't think they win HE, but they are very much alive for finishing second with splits against ME and UNH and sweeps against UMA and PC. They are in the driver's seat and control their fate, they now simply have to execute by holding serve at home and winning at Maine, UMA, and PC. I'll tell you one thing, I may decide to spend the $20 bucks and take in the UNH/MC game. Tickets may actually be hard to come by, especially if Merrimack can steal points for UNH on Friday.

Stat of the Night: Excluding the loss against us, Merrimack has outscored its opponents 30-6 in their four wins at home this semester.

I'm also thinking of heading over to Merrimack for that game. I think the place will be packed regardless of what happens at UNH. I watched the UNH/ME game tonight. Unbelievable finish, another tough loss for Maine. That's two games that Maine has basically handed to UNH this season.

They're playing some very good hockey and they're getting production from all their lines. It's hard to see them going on a prolong losing streak. They will probably make the NCAA's. It will be interesting to see how the do against UNH.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Results may not show it, but the team has been playing better off late. #6 in HE comes to town this weekend for Lowell's only game of the weekend, and it would be nice if the Hawks could beat the Huskies. Been a while since a league win at home ... over 3 months now since they beat UVM on November 5th.

Time for a win, as the Hawks are running out of time. I thought Lowell could have easily won the first meeting, I didn't see the second game. I expect a very tough game as the Huskies are playing very good hockey. Hopefully there's a big turnout for the game.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

This is an important three game home stand for a lot of reasons. Playoffs aside for a moment, they need a win against a middle of the road team like a NU or Maine at home to set the page for short term goals this year, and more importantly, long term goals in 2011-2012. Going 0-3-0 during this time in front of the home folks isn't going to cut it. For a change, I just want to see happy faces and smiles walking out of the arena around 9:20 PM on Friday night. Particularly with the final game against Maine on NESN, losing the first two will not only keep the fans away from the final two games, but getting back to the playoffs, it will all but mathematically eliminate us unless that PC and UVM do the same amount of losing. Just look at this board, in the past few days since the games on Saturday night only you or Monty. The moral victories are all well and good but the fanbase just wants to see a win. Their focus should be on winning on Friday night. let alone playoffs. If the River Hawks and go 1-1-1 or 2-1-0 over this homestand, they will have a minimum of nine ponts and then we can start talking playoffs.

The second game against NU was a very winnable game. NU started a freshman goalie in Witt and while I'll give him all the credit in the world for playing a good game, they River Hawks really never challenged him that much, especially late. With that game tied after two, they were out shot 14-7 and hence, you have the 3-1 loss. They need to have 30+ shots per game because they are not talented enough to hold a game to 2-1 or 3-2.

I'm hoping for a turnout of 4000-4500 given the fact that last week did not have a home hockey game.

John, I agree with you that it is an important game stretch.. esp with PC and VT playing against tougher opp (excluding the PC/UMA game). I think a game like today will show if we have any chance to make a shot at #8 in HE when it is all said and done.

I doubt we will see 4-4.5k for today. It would be nice, but NU never has that big of a draw. I was easily able to get a ticket for mid row sec 105 just yesterday afternoon.

However with the 2 game hosting of Maine, I think we can expect a bus/van/trailer/mobile home of Maine fans to assume their normal section and prove they can spell their home state.

I think this video pretty much sums up our season and more appropiately, the ending.

There's really nothing else to say. This was a game Lowell had to win but couldn't close escrow on the what I counted to be at least five pipes tonight, including the power play at the end of regulation. Sad too, because this one the rare oppotunities I had to throw the chicken after the first goal and suffered the first loss. Before tonight, the Hawks were 3-0.

Reality set in tonight for the larger than expected of 4,806 that the season will end on March 5th even though officially it won't happen until next week.

I was hoping to go to Merrimack tomorrow night but the game is now sold out in advance. When was the last time that happened for a Merrimack game??!!

The bench looked stunned with the way the game ended. It's been a long frustrating season, hopefully they can bounce back after this one.
