I didn't like them either. I liked the red ones that said Lowell. The ones from a few years ago.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

For those of us who "live and die" for our favorite college hockey team, there comes a time when that is secondary. And that time came to Pioneer fans this weekend.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — University of Denver center Jesse Martin sustained three neck fractures in Saturday night's hockey game at North Dakota and was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital this morning where doctors are deciding if emergency surgery is required to relieve swelling of the spinal cord, the player's father said.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Rare Tuesday night game this week. With Boulanger and Carr both playing well last weekend and with a pair of important Hockey East games this weekend, who's going to get the nod? Having no inside information whatsoever, I'm going to say Carr Tuesday. I know he's had less time off, but I just have a hunch.

Also, kudos to Merrimack for hosting the Sweden U-20 team on Tuesday. Not a bad recruiting tool to have some college-age amateur players running around the campus. 'Mack has been on the recruiting war path early this season.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Seriously? I love them. Definitely better than the red IMO.
Agreed. I really loved the red ones that Scarlet mentioned, but I like this blue a lot.
According to NCAA rules, a "team" via its coach can ask for a review provided that the team has a timeout. If they do not have a timeout, the coach can not ask for one. Regardless of outcome, if a review is intiated, a timeout will be charged.

I'm sure Hockey East does have some additional rules and procedures when using instant replay in league games but I don't think they are publicly available.
Lowell got hosed on that last year in a home game against someone (Amherst?) where the refs did a review after the opposing coach asked. Coach MacDonald was ****ed about that, because you can't ask for a review.

Holy crap ... that's awful. Here's hoping the kid recovers as best as is possible.

And in the meantime, Lowell recruiting has gone deadly silent. I know there was a kid from South Shore (EJHL) at the game on Friday night.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

so Lowell starting out 1-5 right now in hockey east and it doesn't look pretty. You can look at it as us being tie in 7th place right now but UNH and UVM havent played any games really yet. In fact, Lowell has play the most games in hockey east right now. If they don't gain some points this weekend vs UNH and UVM at home then with next weekend being an off weekend, they have dug themselves a grave. Boulanger needs to control his rebounds stat. Nothing like giving up 8 goals in his last 2 games.

I would also like to give some props to Josh Holmstrom. I like his style of play very aggressive on the ice would not be surprised if he gets the A next year.

I think last night's game went as well as could be predicted. It's got to be tough for any team to have two days to prepare for a game where they're going to have four main players out of the lineup (Scheu (2p), Cey (2p), Campbell (3p), Budd (3p), I believe). Nevermind it's a team with thirteen freshmen that's going to play the defending national champions on the road. The team showed sparks of excellent play, but the lack of depth was evident.

I know that Boulanger didn't have much of a chance on some of those goals, but it sounded like rebound control and puck distribution where a problem for him last night. The backchecking forwards, defense, and goalie have to find a way to get both goalies' save percentages close to or over .900.

I liked Blaise's decision to call the time out and pull the goalie on the PP with five minutes to go. I thought it showed he and the team were still hungry. It was also nice to get a PPG but the shorties have to stop.

Totally agree with giving props to Holmstrom. There were a few times on the radio broadcast last night where Bob said things like, "Great hustle by Holmstrom to knock X off the puck."

Going to keep with the optimism and say Lowell's good for two points this weekend.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

They sound like they have flashes of brilliance followed by bouts of noarcolepsy. Hopefully as they get more seasoned they will have less of the narcoleptic moments!

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

While the start is nothing short of dreadful, I can't really say anyone is completely shocked by the results either. Realistically, they have played four of the first six league games against BU, BC, and Maine, three of them on the road. How many of you had us taking points from any of these games, especially in the first semester? I'll be honest, I sure as heck didn't. It was nice to see them get a couple of goals back because I turned off the radio when it was 4-0.

I keep track of Seasonal Changes in Numbers so I decided to keep track of this team vs. their 2006-2007 freshmen-laden counterparts; the numbers ain't pretty.

Code:
Hockey East To Date	G	W	L	T	Pts	Pct.	GF	GA	GFPG	GAPG	Ratio	d Goal
Lowell 2010-2011	6	1	5	0	2	0.167	12	27	2.00	4.50	4/9	-2.50
Lowell 2006-2007	6	2	2	2	6	0.500	13	13	2.17	2.17	1/1	0.00
Seasonal Change	0	-1	3	2	-4	-0.333	-1	14	-0.17	2.33	-0.56	-2.50

The good news is that they will be home now (save a trip to Volpe -- again home ;)) until Dec 3rd/4th. While the last home game was one to forget, hopefully they can find a way to take some points and get some of the upperclassmen back on the ice. Injuries on a team with depth issues just makes for a long season.

Bob was commenting on the radio last night (as was Chaz) that there seemed to be a major communication gap between the goalies and the D. That's got to be fixed.

I'm sure when Coach MacDonald saw the schedule, he banged his head on his desk a bit. Tough tough HE schedule to start off the season, with an extremely young team. Just keep learning boys, it'll get better.

Carr, IMO, is starting to look like a legit goaltender out there and has proved himself over the last couple games. I am starting to feel confident with him in net knowing if we put up some goals we can get the W.

Pendenza looking really good this year hope he still stays consistant.

Very slow in the first 2 periods but just like that 2 goals within 50 seconds?

Also I was smiling when the student section kept chanting Madore. Loved it.

PK is looking reallllllly good last few games.

Good win for Lowell with Soup, Cey out. I won't be there tomorrow but I am hoping Boulanger can hold it down and at least get a point at of tomorrows game.

Quick HE Scores: PC 2 MC 0. UNH 2 BC 1.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Good game tonight. GREAT third period.

Carr looks like he's becoming the #1. 29 saves on 30 shots (.967) is excellent. Too bad about the bad hop off the glass stanchion on the one he did let in.

PK was excellent and it was nice to actually GET a SHG for once. Props to Pendenza for his hustle on that one.

Nice to see Vallorani pick up a goal.

UNH looked good against BC tonight. Hopefully Lowell can put a few more shots on net tomorrow, get some more good defensive/goalie play and take a point or two from the Wildcats.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Blaise needs to keep Carr in net for tomorrow. The kid has given up 3 goals in his last 7 periods against BU and UVM. Ride him and let him get into a flow.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Well, good news bad news... the good news is we're tied with Maine for home ice... the bad news is they have 5 games in hand on us. I know its all semantics, but either way, tied for 4th. :p

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Quick HE Scores: PC 2 MC 0. UNH 2 BC 1.
Carr needs to play tomorrow night at this point. His GAA, even after that debacle at Maine, has now dropped to 2.73 and his save % is up to 91.4%. Play him!

Other HE scores ... UMass loses to Army at home 5-2. NU loses to Niagara at home. Ouch ... on both counts.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

A 2-5 record is much better than 1-6. Tomorrow's game would have a completely different meaning if Lowell didn't take points tonight. Very important and needed victory, I posted my thoughts on the other forum.

They have a lot of work to do, but I'm hoping it will be a "purr-fect" weekend; I know you guys were waiting for that one :p :D :)
