2010-2011 NHL Season Part II - Concussions Are Serious Business, Savvy?

I laughed at the ESPN smear job ERRRR.... coverage of the Cooke incident. (I'm not saying Cooke is being smeared, but the NHL gets put through the wringer whenever something like this happens and they are the one getting smeared.) They don't acknowledge the NHL's exist until something bad happens. They are as biased as a certain news outlet. :D

I wonder if Cooke has business cards that say

Matt Cooke

Professional *********

Once again, this is another reason why the Instigator penalty needs to die. The Rangers had to temper their justice or Prust would've gotten tossed. Let the players police the game. Cooke wouldn't have last in the good old days.
The Rangers didn't have to temper anything. Cooke got 5+ game, as he deserved, and the Rangers took the lead on the power play he gave them. **** "the good old days", suspend his *** like he deserves and stop pretending we live in the old west. Letting the players police the game is how we wind up with fiascoes like Islanders/Pens.

Good. That team deserves it. I'd stick them right behind San Jose in "how to build a sunbelt franchise"

I think the schedule makers did them a favor by giving them just a handful of home games in November and December, when they have to go head to head with the Titans, Vandy, and UT. They're in the midst of a 10 game stretch where they play at home 9 times.

Somewhat related: Nashville's top 4 on D - Weber, Suter, Franson, Blum - is going to be exceptional for a very long time if they stay together. They're all very solid at both ends of the ice.

Penguins should cut him. Agreeing with the NHL's verdict isn't enough. Cooke must go.

As a lifelong Pens fan I agree with this whole heartedly. He doesnt add anything to the team except a liability.

Re: 2010-2011 NHL Season Part II - Concussions Are Serious Business, Savvy?

I do think he's an effective penalty killer and scores enough to be a good third line player. If he could simply keep his hands down and stop trying to kill people with blind side hits, I would want him on the two NHL teams that I cheer for. But seemingly he can't play clean. I also hate turtling when you run around and act like a goon ....... it's disgusting. You should have to answer the bell.

I agree re. the instigator talk as it relates to Matt Cooke and a few others, but I wonder if that would serve the greater good or lead to other issues?

I wrote the Penguins yesterday to indicate that I'm not allowing my seven year old son, who is a huge Penguins fan, to watch any Penguins game that Cooke plays in until he demonstrates over time that he'll stop trying to permanently disable/kill opposing players. I know this will have limited impact on its own, but if enough other people communicate their views it will help. I think that Shero and Lemieux want to do the right thing and think they're taking the high road in this instance, but my view is that suspending him for at least the entire playoffs and seriously considering whether he should be a part of the Penguins plans over the next two years would have been a stronger and more appropriate statement.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy the Rangers didn't deal Anisimov + picks/prospects for Brad Richards; it's been great watching that kid develop. Tell you what though Stars, you can have Drury's bloated contract for him.

Another shutout for Lundqvist (league-leading 10th of the season), and the Rangers FINALLY manage to beat one of the Florida teams!

Any word on whether the NYPD has launched an investigation into Cooke's hit like those buffoons up in Montreal?

With Chara not getting suspended and Cooke getting more than I thought (thought it would just be remainder of regular season), it's nice seeing the NHL finally get some of these right.

Solid win by Boston tonight. It's about time. Let's finish the season strong and get some home cooking going.

I will be at the game on Thursday, picked up some Loge seats via Craig's List for $50 each. :)

It's like going back in time... to last season... or the season before that...

The Wild should not be emulating PC hockey.

I was wrong about the Bruins losing to the Devils. Maybe I'll be wrong about losing to the Rangers and Habs as well. Who knows?

Not sandbagging here, but I don't see a Montreal team playing without 8 regulars being able to keep up with the Bruins. There's a reason why Price is getting Hart and Vezina consideration...he's got nobody in front of him.

Bruins 4-1.

PS: I also thought it was funny that today's Dreger report states that Bettman met with Chiarelli and Gauthier last week and let them know that tomorrow's game "can't turn into a gong show".
