2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

Just got finished reading about the multiple committments and Middlebury college. Being from the D.C. area I can tell you that part of the reason this is taking place is the club teams themselves. Women players are tough to come by in this area and alot of club teams have to reach out to obtain quanity and quality of players. If a club team can market their orginization as having placed girls at top 10 d3 and d1 schools it goes along way in getting players to sign up for the next season. I think that some club teams jump the gun a little in claiming their players are committed to certain colleges.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

Talked to Jackie MacMillan, CSS Head Coach, yesterday and she told me that Stephanie Lenz, 09'-10' UMD player, is transferring to CSS. She joins Libby Guzzo, '07-10' UMD player transferring to CSS and was selected as Captain.
Also, Frankie Bergman, former Duluth Northern Stars HS player, will join the team. Jackie also told me of another HS player coming to CSS, but can't recall who right now. Memory issues become more frequent when you get to my advanced age!!!:o

Wow! An impressive class for a first year program bringing in 28 kids. At seems as though St. Scholastica has made a strong commitment to winning early. I feel St. Norbert and St. Scholastica are going to make things very interesting out west and help raise the bar for the western schools so Gustavus, River Falls, etc aren't the big fishes in the small pond as much anymore.

Way to many in my opinion. Might be hard to keep kids happy with that many?

You can only dress 18 skaters and 3 goalies so (assuming they all make the team) 7 players will be sitting out every game. That may be a bit hard for the coach to manage! You probably also have to figure in a factor for some attrition (College adjustment, academics, injury, drama etc.) there may be fall out and slots opening up.

My biggest concern would be trying to convince future recruits that there will be a place for them on this team. I'm sure the coach is justifiably more concerned with the here and now rather than next year's recruiting.

We'll see when the pucks start dropping! St. Scholastica should be an interesting team to watch!

As an aside, this discussion shows how well women's ice hockey can draw students to a college. Here are 28 enrolled, tuition and fee paying students that may not have even applied if the sport were not offered.

Great points!

It is a beautiful school/campus and hopefully the girls were made aware of the number of players.

I do unerstand girls go to college mainly for the education. Some like to experience both.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

I agree, a pretty large roster. I wouldn't want to juggle it. I wonder if the 2 fowards from UMD will make any impact. Do any other girls jump out at anyone? I will say it will make the NCHA stronger over time.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

Kiana Leisz (D) out of Wyoming is a strong smart D. Tried to talk her into playing for the Colorado Select for years. She should make the squad and get plenty of playing time. Great kid!

With a roster that bigger it seems only 3/4 of the team will experience both.
The roster is to big even for a men's team.
Good luck to them all.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

I'm curious what the RIT crowd has to say with Amy Torgerson transferring to UW-Superior?? Why the move? Is she good??

Hey, I like your Go Jackets this year. A good mix of Canadian/American talent and a proven goaler that could shine now that she is in a different system.

....should improve on last years record of 18-9-2!

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

This is what makes the D3 list extra difficult:

Bernheim for example has been submitted to Manhattanville - Nov, Middlebury - Dec, Norwich - Feb, Middlebury - March, and now Norwich again. All were individual submissions.

None by Bernheim or her family.

She was ED to Middlebury. Committed in July to Coach Mandigo. Accepted in December. (Pride coach posted acceptances in mid-December on the Pride website.) Could not get Financial Aid to work and she declined early January. Accepted to Norwich immediately following w/full Army four-year scholarship for tuition w/room and board.

The player ego insinuations and other "dirty laundry" have no real place on the web. I actually read this trash by googling her name. You guys make a lot of statements about a lot of kids. Your assumptions could do damage to the reputations of a number of great girls. I only joined this site so I could set the record straight for my daughter.

Congrats to Rose. It is a shame that there are times on these boards, that assumptions are made without actual knowledge of the situation. In advance, I would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" for the commitment that she is making, not only to her education, but to our country. I am sure you are very proud of her and the decision she has made.

Best of luck to your daughter on and off the ice.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

In fairness to the board, they only post the names and commitments that are given to them. If they didn't someone would complain more that their Suzie or Jonnie did not get their name on the board. Keep it the way it is and give only one commitment after all financial issues are addressed.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

...and most members of this forum are aware that DIII is a different animal and the only time that you can really say that a player is "committed" is in November when you see them on a roster. At that point, they are "committed" at least until January when they can transfer for the spring semeter.

We also understand that there are a lot of factors that go into selecting a college and that things change (stuff happens) during the year.

All this leads to heart ache for the poor souls trying to track where people are going but really doesn't reflect negatively on the player.

As I posted on the Men's DIII commitment thread. It would really help if people would post the information without the trash talk/sniping. For Norwich to get a recruit who initially was headed for Middlebury does say a lot about how fast the NU program has grown.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

Keep it the way it is and give only one commitment after all financial issues are addressed.

Please keep in mind that until my post the other day, no BERNHEIM submitted anything. That was my point. WE never made the commitment public in the first place.

To GOTICE - Thanks for your kind words. Both my parents are/were Army veterans of WWII, I am an Army Ranger vet and Rose's mother has just returned to active duty with her third branch of service (Air Force), my other daughter and her husband are both in the Army presently and posted to Iraq. I think Rose realized sooner or later that she would get sucked into the "family business.":D Of course, I am proud of her choice and respect her all the more for her decision. Wish you and your family well.

To Uconn Fan & NU Prof - Thanks for your kind words. I will share them with Rose. She is looking forward to her journey. NU will offer her some great challenges and some great opportunities. Hopefully, she will put in the time to be in a position to maximize them.
