Perfectly clean hit by Drew Doughty on Taylor Hall results in a free-for-all.

What the H#$@ is happening to the NHL?

Man up, ya bunch of Nancy boys!

Kings coach Terry Murray agrees!

The broadcasting crew is hilarious: "That's a head shot!". No, it isn't. It's a great hit at the same time Hall puts himself in a vunerable position. Beautiful hit by Doughty.

It makes me ill to see clean hits like that rewarded with cheap shots by the opposing team (ie: starting the fight) because their player was embarrassed. Hip checks have also resulted in "That made me look foolish, so now I'm going to fight you," outbursts.

FWIW, what a great hit.

The Bruins had a simple hit on Malkin, nothing too big the other day and some Penguin went after the Bruins player. It was dumb. Just because your star player gets hit and knocked down doesnt mean you have to fight or attempt to.

The Penguins, UNLIKE THE BRUINS, will actually stand up for teammates... retaliating for clean hits is silly, but if you want to discourage certain hits its not unreasonable... unless you're Claude Julien.

I can't tell who said "That's a head shot." It wasn't Mark Lee, the PBP guy, or analyst Kevin Weekes. I didn't see the game, so I don't know if that HNIC crew had a third guy at ice level. Usually it's just Lee and Weekes. I do like what Weekes said about "Rob Blake is smiling."

God the Rangers' power play is awful.

Also PK Subban is a goon and I have no idea how he gets away with the **** he does. The slew-foot earlier in the week and a couple of blatant penalties tonight.

Goon is a bit of hyperbole. "Plays with an edge" seems more appropriate.

Plays with an edge is a fan's way of saying dirty.

Your team: he's dirty!
My team: he plays with an edge!

Wow -- not one mention that Subban is Canadian, so he must play dirty!:D

Look to the Atlanta game earlier this year for the team standing up for a guy who can take it himself, Lucic. Yes, what happened to Savard was awful last year, but I think it happened so quickly, and behind the play, that nobody SAW it to stand up for him.

Bruins with a massive win, 7-0 against the Canes today. Chara with a hat trick.

The goon that plays with an edge prevents a complete collapse by the Canadiens.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Good for the Coyotes:

Just to show that Sun Belt teams aren’t out to kill small-market hockey in Canada, we bring you a heartwarming tale from Phoenix.

A midget team from Edmonton was in Peoria, Ariz., near Glendale for a tournament the past few days, storing all its gear in a trailer. Thieves broke into the vehicle and stole all the hockey bags, leaving the Alberta squad out of business.

But there are some wiley Coyotes on the club’s equipment staff and when they got a call about the kids’ plight from a colleague with the Oilers, they sprang into action.

Head equipment manager Stan Wilson began collecting skates, pants, pads and sticks from around the Coyotes’ dressing room and training facility.

“We just basically got a rundown of their skate sizes, which way they shot — left or right,” Wilson told the Arizona Republic. “We just threw together a bunch of stuff and hauled it over to the rink. They went through it, suited themselves up, and away they went.”

Wilson, who moved with the team from Winnipeg in the mid 1990s, said he never had heard of an entire team victimized by theft. As for the loan perhaps getting a few Edmonton fans to change stripes when the Coyotes come north?

“That’s what I’m hoping for,” Wilson said.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

I really, really, really hate hockey this year.

Todd McLellan: Hey Dougie, the Sharks need some defensive help, what do you have up your sleeve?
Doug Wilson: An out of shape 3rd liner and a career minus 4th liner who'll put us short-handed a bunch. It'll put us over the cap so we'll just dump some other offensive players who are better than the two guys we just picked up.
TM: I hate you.
DW: Don't worry, I'll be picking up a veteran D-man who'll be a UFA after the season and sign him to a 4 year 12M dollar deal. He'll fit right in playing with Huskins and Wallin.
TM: I quit, just like my team does in the 3rd period.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Seriously. There aren't enough burgers in San Jose for Wellwood and Wallin.

And ooh, let's trade for Eager because he has a farking cup ring.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

If Detroit was healthy, and you had the cap space, half the fanbase would probably let SJ have Hudler for free. :D

That was really embarassing. Heck of a shot though by PK to win it. Nice day of work for Price...come in, make 4 saves, get the win.

Canadiens with a chance to tie for the division lead points wise tonight. (Yes, I realize that the Bruins have a game in hand. Given that they can not beat the Canadiens and they still play three more times this year....)

Also, they've announced an alumni game on 2/19 preceeding the Heritage Classic the next day in Calgary. I'm guessing that most people on the boards aren't old enough to remember, but Flames-Canadiens was a good rivalry back in the day.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

In the 2nd most worthless All Star Game... well, if any All Star games are worthwhile to begin with... anyways, Staal and Lidstrom are named Captains.

Anyone else stunned by this? I would've SWORN it would be Ovechkin vs. Crosby. I wonder if Bettman is disappointed in this? I wonder if he worries about if they're on the same team?

Truthfully speaking, I was surprised but gladdened. It's nice to see someone OTHER than 87 and 8 get some of the limelight.

Crosby may not even be ABLE to play if he can't suit up for the Pens in the next week, so that could have been a very risky move if he was named captain and then couldn't play.

Soooooooo Edmonton thinks the net is 20 feet wide.

Especially with a 5 on 3.
