2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Buster Olney is saying that this report isn't accurate. Who knows what that means.

If I recall correctly, Rosen was pretty much correct on the Favre story last season when ESPN was saying the opposite, so who knows. Mark is a pretty plugged in guy in local sports. I tend to believe him, especially since it's Mauer related. ;)

They're talking about it on KFAN, supposedly its 10 years, $200 million.

I'm not at all shocked it's that much, but it's still kind of a shock to the system to see the Twins offering that much money. I never thought I'd see the day...

I kinda figured that. With all the notes in the past few days about the Mauer deal close I thought it was most likely right, but maybe the years are different or something.

They said they were going to spend more money if they got a new stadium, I don't think anyone actually believed they would. Maybe we were wrong.

Yowzers! I hope this is true - even if the $$$$ is insane - but given the nature will remain skeptical until the press conference. ;)

How many grave rotations is smiling Carl up to by now? :o

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Heyman is speculating the contract won't be for 10 years but for 7 or 8 for between $150-$180 million. Either way, he'd get north of $20 million a year.

The other things I've read said the contract is very backloaded which is... stunning really, considering what that means for Mauer in that he'd be waiting to get REALLY paid out.

Either way, it seems like it's going to happen and that's good for the Twins.

Insane money, but worth every cent to this franchise.

Maybe to allow the team the financial flexability to try and make a few moves in the coming years to make a run at the WS?

Moves other than the usual Tony Batista, Sidney Ponson, et al signings. (Well, I guess they did sign Thome).

Agree 100%. Plus, imagine the hit Billy's new Chevy dealership would take if he didn't sign with the Twins. That's BJ for you, always looking out for his older brothers. ;)

It probably also helps soften the blow of Morneau's contract so the team isn't getting crushed paying two guys a ton of money at the same time.

I don't imagine the Twins will be pinching pennies in the new park, they know what they have to do now.

It sure sounds like it is official during the KFAN news update...they're saying that the official news is coming in now, whatever that means.

my contact with the Twins just spoke with Bill Smith who said the deal is not finalized, but it's nearly done. Which means the incentives need to be worked out. Mauer will be a Twin for many years to come.
