2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Alright I put way more time into this then it's worth, but since there doesn't seem to be a good aerial picture yet, i.e. satellite, I compared pictures some more, and the right field foul lines appears to runs in line with the edge of Target Center, which is actually pretty much northwest-southeast. So home plate to center field is more due east. Until the web based satellite pictures are updated...that's what I will believe, despite what the Twins say.

If what I say is true, maybe both Duluth and Red Wing are possible. :D
Er.... aren't all baseball fields built this way?

Left handed pitchers are called south paws because their left arms are facing south when they're standing on the mound. Which would have home plate to center field being due east.

I was at Sinners about 2 and a half years ago for a bachelor party. That's the only time I've gone into a strip club and thought "there is not one attractive woman here."

I watched Royals v Twins (5/1/09) and Angels v Twins (4/17/09) last night. :)

A recent Tweet (bite me Handy ;) ) from Reusse: "Hum is getting louder that Twins will announce Mauer contract extension as kickoff to Twins Fest."

My .02 worth. He will sign with MN. In addition to the cash he will also be getting a piece of the team.

You should try the 22nd Avenue Station, aka the Double Deuce on 22nd and University Ave. NE... ;) :D

The Christian Brothers said they would donate Cretin HS to him if he stays with the Twins. :)

Really funny, my daughter is spending the day at CDH today (she's an 8th grader and may go there next year) and my wife called Monday and wondered if she could go Wednesday instead. The lady just laughed at her. We had no idea the ESPN deal was being filmed and 4,000 people were going to be on campus. Too funny....

I wouldn't doubt it. I think the team might actually realize that they have to do anything possible to keep him in MN.

Traditionally baseball stadiums are build home plate to center field to the Northeast, and in my profession, we are told they are supposed to rotate that way...when possible. When I started looking at this the other day, I looked up a bunch of stadiums. Most of the of the older ones do face Northeast...Wrigley, Fenway, Yankee, Dodger, Kauffman and even some of the newer ones, Yankee, Camden Yards, Coors, Citi, Busch. However many of the new ones are rotated to take advantage of views or the space, Comerica, Comiskey (or whatever they call it), Progressive, PNC, Citizens Banks and now Target Field. It's another place where money, "beauty", and whatever else, trumps tradition.

I am not sure either. If it's legal it will happen.
The only thing holding it up right now is the MLB is taking a little too long to re-write the rule books. It is supposedly already referred to as "The BabyJesus Exception".

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Well, I know that Ted Turner wasn't allowed to manage as team owner.
That could come under "integrity of the game", kind of like Charley Finley not being allowed to trade half his players for cash. They had no objection to Smiling Carl gassing his team for $$$$$ however, so MLB owners' integrity appears to be a slippery slope.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Yes but a player owner could be seen in the same light.

I thought Fat Idiot...err...Reusse said they would announce the signing today...I dont believe Reusse would ever be wrong!

Wait...I meant I don't believe Reusse would ever be RIGHT...my bad :p

Another thing to think about: if Mauer gets a slice of the team, is he part of the MLBPA, or is he front office management?

It'd likely be something they can offer him once he retires. It's that kind of conflict of interest that causes issues. I know it's been done in other sports.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

You guys are way ahead of yourselves. Has Mauer even been invited to spring training yet?

:D

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

I just read an article that said the Twins are close to a deal with Orlando Hudson, to play at 2B. I like this signing, because Hudson would be an improvement over Punto/Casilla/Harris...

I kinda like the look of this lineup:

Span CF
Hudson 2B
Mauer C
Morneau 1B
Cuddyer RF
Kubel DH
Young LF
Hardy SS
Punto/Harris 3B

With Thome, Morales, Punto/Harris, Pridie, Valencia/Casilla off the bench

I'm hoping that Valencia is at the point where he can play at a major league level. If he can produce as much as Punto/Harris, lets get our third baseman of the future up to the big leagues.
