2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Everyone doubted us, including and especially us.

I can hardly blame anyone for doubting them, myself included. The way they were playing they deserved it.

But they have finally sucked me back in. I'm just fearful of how they are going to proceed to crush me now.

That's what makes experiences like '87 or '91, or for Gopher fans '02 or '03 ('04 or '05 if one follows the ponytail crowd;) ) so great. After all of the cruel and crushing endings to the dream, when there is no awful punchline at the end, it is beyond sweet. And 20 years later when you see a bunch of fat, balding guys walking around waving to the crowd, you can still feel the joy. So yeah, we'll get crushed. But someday, with some team, we won't.

I said a few months ago that it would come down to the Twins and Tigers. Some idiot Twins fan said that KC was completely legit and that I knew nothing about baseball...

Good luck on Tuesday, you're going to need it.

Fellow Twins fans, I might remind you that this is the same poster who thought the Lions would win 8 games this season.

I'm not sayin' I'm just sayin'. ;)

It basically depends on which Baker shows up. I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers put up 7 or 8, just ticked. It would also fit, with the Twins being a team from Minnesota and all. :D

All the pressure is on Detroit. If they don't get a couple runs early, they are in deep trouble. Even Ozzie Guillen thinks Detroit is so bad that he purposely screwed the Tigers over so the Twins could make a run. Why else would he have bothered pushing Jake Peavy back?

The Tigers need all the help they can get. It's gonna be a loooong winter in the Motor City. Good thing you have the Red Wings.

[Hammer], [Hammer]...you doubted us, but look at us now. Look at us now.

Somebody didn't notice that the Twins had a steady diet of cupcakes (with the exception of 7 games with the Rangers) after finishing a series with the Angels at the beginning of August. Regression to the mean.

At least you can stop with the "they backed in" posts. They'll either win it in gutsy fashion, or Minnesota will have earned it by being the best team in baseball the last six weeks.

And as far as the Wings... this may be their worst season in fifteen years. Not really looking forward to that.

Wow, 51K+ in the Humptydome yesterday. Did they take down that shower curtain in RF?

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

As representative of the Detroit fan base I would congratulate you all on your first round match up with the Yankees(I know it's not official yet but it will be eventually). You deserve it, when a team bricks down their leg like the Tigers did over the last couple months of the season they should be eliminated no matter if somehow managed to win on the last day to force a one game play in game. Now go play the Yankees, and don't blow it.

Do you realize that even fellow fans of your teams hate you? There is a reason for that.

The Twins don't need luck, just a decent outing from Baker and the division is wrapped up.

FYP

Delusional at best, but most likely severely mentally handicapped. Really it is a small miracle that someone with his handicap has been able to learn how to use a computer.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

I wrote the Twins off numerous times this year...never before the All Star break...AFAIC, a team is never out of it until August. But when they were 7 games back, I thought they had no chance. I really didn't. The Twins are truly something special, and winning tomorrow will be one of the greatest moments in team history.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 3 - It's still not over...statistically

Apparently, since the Twins will have to play on Tuesday now, they're going to have to start Duensing against the Yankees in game 1. The plan, if there was no Tuesday game, was to go with a 3-man rotation, with Baker-Blackburn-Pavano-Baker-Blackburn. Now it will be Duensing-Blackburn-Pavano-Baker-Blackburn.

edit: I don't like the idea of putting Duensing in game 1, his first playoff game, as a rookie, his first time at Yankee Stadium. Well, I think it is his first time playing there, I believe he was in AAA when the Twins went there for the regular season.

Well what else are you going to do...there is no other way to go unless you want to pitch Blackburn again on 3 days rest. Winning game 1 isnt the most important thing in the world just ask the other Twins teams that won game 1 at Yankee Stadium.

BTW with the amount of tickets being scalped on Craigslist (125 bucks for the upper deck reserved, 90 for Upper GA...hahahahahahahaha) there could be lots of empty spots in the Dome tomorrow. I just dont see people shelling out that type of cash for tickets and honestly I hope they dont and the scalpers are forced to eat the tickets. Man I wish they would make scalping illegal again because this experiment has failed. It hasnt lowered prices at all like they thought it would and it has only made it harder for the average fan to get tickets. Plus it has added to the Stub Hub/Ticket King bs as average fans will just buy huge chunks of tickets and sell them off. Well I am fine watching at home for free and enjoying some whiskey...I am not overpaying for tickets to this game.

The only other option would be Liriano, and I think we all agree that we don't want to go there. So yeah, I think they have to start Duensing, even though it isn't the most desirable situation.

Hate is a strong word. BB seems to be an okay guy. Misguided, but okay. I wouldn't let him touch my $ in Vegas.

And every team needs luck, like a visiting team's rookie (defensive replacement?) misplaying a flyball in the pillowdome that basically ruined a good outing and cost a game. Don't ask why that kid was playing at a critical moment.... or how Span got into RF as a replacement for Kubel and caught a GW hit in the bottom of the 9th last week, a game the Twins win in extra innings...which is two of the hundred reasons this season why Gardenhire > Leyland. Luck is created out of preparation and hard work...plus a crappy home field roof. ;)

**** the Red Wings.

Yada, yada. :p
