2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

Eric Wedge has been fired by the Indians but will finish out the season as manager.

It feels like this was ownership's decision and not GM Mark Shapiro's.

I saw that. Isn't that weird? That you're fired but still have to work? Couldn't they have made that announcement after Sunday's game? What incentive does he have to show up?

I am sure it would look better on his next interview to have shown up and been classy that to stay home and pout.

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

Phils magic number to clinch the NL East is one.

Top of five:
Phillies 5- Astros 3

Top of six:
Florida 5- Atlanta 0

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

Bottom six:
Phillies 7- Astros 3

Top seven:
Marlins 5- Braves 0

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

The Phillies are NL East champs for the third year in a row as they hammer Houston 10-3.

It was academic as the Marlins beat the Braves 5-4.

Other NL scores of interest:

Cincy 6- St. Louis 1 F
Rockies 5- Brewers 4 bottom 5
Dodgers 0 - Padres 0 bottom 1

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

The Braves sure bungled that bases loaded passed ball really well. They must be getting their playoff choke on early.

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

And the Dodgers are choking away the NL West. Would love to see them get passed by the Rockies.

If the playoffs started tomorrow:

Yankees vs. Tigers
Red Sox vs. Angels

Phillies vs. Rockies
Dodgers vs. Cardinals

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

If the Angels can't reach the ALCS this year, they should be relegated.

They are forever the Red Sox boyfriends and happily bend over for them in October. I expect much of the same this year because everyone that's not a writer in the Boston media or works at ESPN (redundant, I know) isn't expecting it.

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

Given that the Red Sox don't seem to realize that they cannot not make the playoffs (seriously - how much were they outscored by Toronto this week???), if the Angels don't sweep this series, they should be ashamed of themselves.

They will feel shame and Mike Scioscia will look like a giant doofus while it happens.

With all the reverse woofing going on here, I expect nothing but the unexpected.

Sounds like a marketing campaign.
