2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

Re: 2009 MLB Thread, Part II: Claimed Off The Waiver Wire

What's fun is when you get YES and Michael Kay starts talking about perfect games after the third inning. I don't care for the superstition aspect of it, I care that he's being a distracting clown with the broadcast. What a dick.

I found a Yankee fan at work who actually likes Kay, Sterling and Waldman.

Should I set the two of you up so you can beat some sense in him, or just sit back and wait for him to show up on USCHO and grab some popcorn (he's a Colgate alum)?

Is there a pep band in Oakland, or did some random fan manage to sneak in a trumpet?

MattS and I have finally got on a good understanding, there's no need to aimlessly introduce the innocent into the wild.

Sterling might be the most annoying sportscaster east of Hawk Harrelson.

Don't single out Michael Kay. Harrelson was doing the same thing in the 3rd inning when Mitre was pitching in the White Sox game. He was even talking about it while the Yanks were at the plate.

Joe Castiglione said it best earlier this season (I'm paraphrasing): "If anything we said could affect the game, we'd be saying a lot more."

I know there's the superstition of "not mentioning" the perfect game/no hitter, and it's kinda fun to play along, but I think a lot of broadcasters have gotten tired of the idea of jinxes - that mentioning the words "perfect game" or "no hitter" on a radio/TV broadcast will throw off the mystical forces allowing the game to progress. I'm sure Hawk Harrelson mentioned it at least once during Buehrle's no hitter and perfect games. Didn't seem to affect his performance in those games.

I'm sure Hawk was doing it to be a an all powerful mystical jinx and felt redeemed when they got a hit.

On the downside, the White Sox were one-hit and shut out by the devastating combo of Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin.

I want to see Susan Waldman, Jack Edwards and Hawk Harrelson in the same booth just to see someone on USCHO's head explode.

If it's not you, it's gonna be me.

This post is worthless without Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

I don't need to say anything about this. This was not photoshopped.
