2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

Re: 2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

I'll be here all season. I have season tickets to the Kohl Center so I like to check on what everyone else thought of the night's game. I might disappear in the offseason, though. Then, it's time for Brewers baseball. :D

You seriously follow Brewers baseball?

Well Herb was right and he proved it at the NCAA and Olympic level.

I don't know if I truely believe at teh Olympic level he knew that. Don't kid ourselves that 1980 Gold Medal team had plenty of NHL players on that team. Obviously they were good but back then we didn't know how good they truely were.

If only the PWR meant something before all the games were played....

Minnesota is not the most talented team in the conference. I think Denver is.

The most talented college hockey? yes. The most talent to reach the NHL? probably not or TBD.

Well I'm going by NHL scouting. They might know hockey talent better than you do.

A player drafted by an NHL organization doesn't mean squat. Most are recruited at such a young age that there's a long developmental period that really determines how good their going to be before they even have a chance to play for the big leagues.

Ex) Gophers have 20 NHL drafts, I didn't see a single NHL-quality player out there last night. Sure, a few of them will go onto be mediocre, maybe a couple big names in the NHL, but a lot of them won't even step on AHL ice.

I also admitted that DU was a better team.
Again, I don't think DU is better than UW.

FWIW, at 5-4-1, UW is a middle of the pack WCHA team, not a top tier one. Honestly, I don't know how anyone can consider a team to be "top tier" at anything when they lose at home to arguably the worst Gopher team I've seen in 20+ years (right now, they're neck and neck with the '98-'99 team for the worst one I've ever seen).

Yes, let's assess the pro potential of players based on their worst game played thus far this season.

Yes, let's try reading my post.

I meant they looked like garbage last night, hence why I said last night.

Before you comment on a loss, maybe you should know a little bit about the game you're commenting on. UW outplayed MINN both games! They outshot MINN both nights, but just couldn't find the back of the net Saturday. You're going to have those games. If it wasn't for the spectacular/career performance by Kangas (MINN goalie if you didn't know), and the poor performance by Bennett (UW goalie if you didn't know), that game would have been completely different.

Not to mention that this is a rivalry game in the best conference in college hockey, anyone can win on any night at any place.
Oh, this is hilarious. More puck luck excuse. I'm sick of hearing it from Gopher coaches and now I have to hear it from delusional hockey fans.

I talked to one of the Gopher players after the game last night as he was taking his stuff back to the bus. He echoed Lucia's comments about the slow start is what killed them. If Hoeffel scores instead of hitting the post, we may have seen a different game, since both teams (Minn and Mich) seem to be pretty fragile. Either way, I wouldn't be so hard on the Gophs, outside of mental breakdowns, turnovers and bad penalties (all fixable) there is talent there to work with.

I wanted double-digits. 6-0 isn't embarrassing enough. They have yet to hit rock-bottom.

Here's to UW mauling the rats to the East tonight! I have a wedding reception to go to so I'll miss the game

and hopefully MN does the WCHA proud and holds MSU winless this weekend

Just to be devil's advocate: Wisconsin lost to Tech at home in the '05-'06 season and they ended up doing alright. ;)

Consistency: You have none. Thanks for keeping it in the same post though, it made it much easier to call you out...

The Gophers are not responding well to adversity at all. They get down a few and they just seem to give up. They get a lead wiped away and they give up. There is no confidence in the locker room. If Kangas doesn't play as well as he did Saturday at Wisconsin...they lose the game probably by a similar score.

Confidence is definitely the problem. I think it is so low that the only way it is going to turn around is to get some lucky bounces. No more own goals, and maybe get one like that against the other team, as well as the refs not calling a marginal call on them when they are getting some momentum. (I realize refs make bad calls both way, but it hurts a team without confidence more than one that is doing well, and they have been at particularly inopportune times in the last few games.) This has to happen a few times before they'll start to believe at all. Yes. I am saying that even with all the talent they have, I don't things will turn around without luck, and luck is hard to come by when the team isn't confident enough to play hard all game long.

That was a typo. Thanks for catching it. I edited the post. To clarify I think DU is better than UW.
