2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

Re: 2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

Tough game tonight. Michigan had a heck of a showcase. It was also a successful one for the Badgers. Stepan is starting to show signs of his 2008-09 dominating self. Now, we just need to sweep MTU and go into the Ralph playing good hockey and we've put ourselves in good position to make the NCAA's.

Looks as though Bucky has work to do with special teams and face offs in front of their own net. Any one see this one to offer up some commentary?

Michigan's face off % this weekend had to be over 50%. I think they had something to do with it. Michigan, as bad as they have been, still had the 6th best PK in the country, too. Two shorties in two nights is a rarity, but it doesn't surprise me, either. Hagelin has speed to burn and Rust and Glendening were outstanding tonight on PK's and PP's. Special teams were the story this weekend for Michigan, that and solid defensive play and good goaltending.

Nice to build on two solid wins over good opponents heading down to Ohio State and then a H&H with Notre Dame. Michigan is 3-0 against the WCHA also.

Any comments on the CCHA officiating?

Awful. Too much clutch and grab. :p

I was there, thought it was a pretty well-played, evenly matched game. Those were two good teams out there, regardless of what the records say. Wisconsin had the edge in shots but I think that was a little deceptive, I thought Michigan did carry the play overall but only slightly. It seemed like Wisconsin's gameplan was to fire as many shots at Hogan as possible, which should have been a good strategy except Hogan was just on fire all weekend. Maybe not having to worry about Campbell coming in and taking his job next year??

Offensively Michigan was very precise with their passes and played fast. They generated a ton of good chances tonight, maybe more than last night, but finishing remains a problem. Guys missed wide open nets several times. Still without question their best two days of hockey this season, hopefully they can build on this.

Officials let a lot go tonight, maybe overcompensating for last night when they were calling everything? There was a stretch in the first period where there were no whistles for a good four or five minutes.

Question for Badger fans out there: why do three different guys on the team wear the "C"? Don't some of those have to be "A"'s?

Sounds like the sentiments of Badger fans. I think you underestimate the quality of scoring chances that Bucky had in this game. They are certainly a team that is not finishing.

Oh, and can someone tell Comely and Red that Bucky doesn't need gushing comments about how good they are, especially when there is clearly much work to do.

We went with the tri captains this year instead of somebody being A because all 3 are great captains but in different ways, they all bring something different in terms of leadership and those 3 guys are the three guys the team turns to most, we have our C on the blueline McDonagh, our forward and special teams captain Geoffrion and our 5th year Sr. captain Street who is the only person left from the national championship team of 06. There is no rule that you have to have A's
