2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

Re: 2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

But your statement of WI being able to play with anyone? Hah! Hilarious. A blind squirrel only finds a nut once in a while, maybe.

Well, the blind squirrel has found a nut eight times now, which by my count is 4 more times than the blind gopher. We've also looked pretty good in our losses and although I'm not big on good losses, I'd prefer them over bad losses, say something like 0-6.

The objective ones amongst us realize that we are currently a high second tier team and are hoping that we turn into a team that can play with anyone. We have the horses, but will it all come together for us? Who knows?

The important thing is that we are winning games early in the season even though most believe that we haven't gotten on a roll yet. The past few years have seen us get out of the gates slowly and it's made things pretty tense at the end of the season.

So while I don't agree with V.W.'s assessment, I will say that we are far from a blind squirrel.

Wisconson looked really good, I wastched brendan smith all game because he was the redwings first round pick in 2007. He stomped MSU and got the first star. I liked what I saw from him

And the blind squirrel comment was just proving a point. 4th-6th in the WCHA is far from a crappy team, IMO. But in the immortal words of The Wolf from Pulp Fiction, "Let's not start sucking each others' diks quite yet."

As for good losses, if MN's "good losses" counted as wins, we'd have about 3 more wins, which really drives me nuts.

Any which way, my tangent had to do with WI supposedly being in the same class as DU and UND this year, and so far, they are not. I wouldn't say they are close (I've caught a couple games outside the MN-WI series, for the record).

No one can touch Chevy, it seems like, which is obviously the key to DU this year. That lil' bastige is un-be-*ing-liev-a-ble. And UND is always up there, it's just a little surprising this year because of their losses in net, etc. But not totally unexpected. Just caught off-guard.

FTR, when I called this team a joke, I was referencing MN. My stance on MN has been clear since the first weekend of the season. It hasn't changed, and it's highly unlikely to - Lucia needs to be canned plain and simple.

UW has not played DU or UND yet, so I'd say speculation at this point is moot until they play. Remember UAA beat both UND and DU while UW swept UAA. so, on and on about comparisons, but I'd say wait until they get on the ice and see what transpires.

UW is looking **** good right now, and I don't feel they're clicking on all cylinders yet.

Re: 2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

I should also point out that MN tied another dubious record tonight: by getting shutout for the fourth time this season, they are now tied with two other seasons in school history for the most shutouts in a single season - one of those was in the '50s, the other was in the '20s.

We're not even halfway through this season.

MN beat BSU (BSU's only loss on the season so far). And BSU beat Miami (#1 in the worthless polls) tonight.

Big deal. ;)

......I've only seen two MN games this year (caveat), but I'd be **** surprised if they don't finish in the Top 5 of the WCHA (top 3 might be out for now, unless they make a huge run). They just have too much talent to continue getting mediocre results.

of course......as a UW fan I'm perfectly fine (actually **** happy) with them falling down to Tech's level:D

The trouble is, there's no single thing that is wrong with the team. There are multiple things wrong.

That being said:

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way.
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day.
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.
I used to have a girlfriend
but she just couldn't compete
with all of these love starved women
who keep clamoring at my feet.
Well I prob'ly could find me another
but I guess they're all in awe of me.
Who cares, I never get lonesome
cause I treasure my own company.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way,
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.
I guess you could say I'm a loner,
a cowboy outlaw tough and proud.
I could have lots of friends if I want to
but then I wouldn't stand out from the crowd.
Some folks say that I'm egotistical.
Hell, I don't even know what that means.
I guess it has something to do with the way that I
fill out my skin tight blue jeans.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way,
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.
We're doing the best that we can.

Chevy didn't look untouchable tonight. SCSU scored 3 goals on him. The Badgers have the best offense in the WCHA right now (Check the stats), and the best penalty kill. UND's offense is hardly average without Genoway so Chevy looked untouchable in that series and see above for why he looked untouchable in the Minnesota series. We'll see how he can handle our 3.85 goals/game offense. I like our chances against any team in the conference. Is Denver a better team than UW? Yes. Is UND a better team? We'll find out in 2 weeks. Is any other team better than UW in the conference? Maybe Colorado College, but I'd love to have that first series of the season back. UW opened the season with a bye week and looked pretty rusty against CC. It's going to be a fun winter in Madtown.

Opposing fans (of big rivals no less) are more optimistic about the Gophers than Gopher fans are. Combine that with the array of usually good teams that suck this season and you have to wonder if the end of the world is coming...

Re: 2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

Another interesting fact is that Denver's Goal differential so far is +5 while UW's is +23. UND is +19. Denver could be getting a bit lucky. Don't sleep on Wisconsin.

Stats are a little skewed...

SCSU
UAA
MSUM
MN

Not exactly top defensive teams...

Wisconsin appears to be a good team. As I mentioned in a different thread, the main difference between last year's Badger team and this one is this year's team forechecks a lot better and seems to be finishing so far. I expect the UW/Sioux series to be two great games like we saw in Denver last week. Hopefully with different results.

Re: 2009 College Hockey Showcase (Minn, Wis, Mich. MSU)

I've stated a lot more facts than you in this thread. Your best analysis has been:
But your statement of WI being able to play with anyone? Hah! Hilarious. A blind squirrel only finds a nut once in a while, maybe.

and if you think that MN won't schedule the Sioux, you are drunker than a Cheesehead after a Packers win.

MN seems to have been renamed France.

I don't even know what to think anymore, other than there's a crapload of legroom on the ol' bandwagon right now

Okay, that made me laugh.

And who is the subpar poster? Your smugness has been great analysis.

1. Was exaggeration to make a point. Which was proven. By your own fans.
2. That's a fact. MN will always have UND on their schedule, no matter what conference they are in.
3. If you saw the game tonight, would you disagree? No? didn't think so.
4. See #3. People are calling for tDon's head, a re-evaluating of the team, etc etc etc. And it's not even Christmas break yet.
5. Even your own fans dunno if WI could hang with UND or DU on a regular basis. Which is what I was saying.

Please, try again. It amuses me.

Proven? Can you read? Or is it that you can't interpret? Nothing was proven except that you are a moron.

Great. Thanks, Captain Obvious. Can we have more of your great analysis?

3. If you saw the game tonight, would you disagree? No? didn't think so.

Did Maroon and Gold look Blue, Red and White to you?

4. See #3. People are calling for tDon's head, a re-evaluating of the team, etc etc etc. And it's not even Christmas break yet.

We know you don't know what to think anymore. You can't think, period.

5. Even your own fans dunno if WI could hang with UND or DU on a regular basis. Which is what I was saying.

Of course they don't. They can't predict the future and nor can I. I am confident that we can hang with them, though.

Dude, put down the Robutussin. That stuff is dangerous. You made no sense in your posts. I may not like you, but I don't want you to not be healthy and/or die. That's not cool.

Take a breath, and thank the good Lord for life. Really, it's the only choice you have now.
