Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

Congrats Cats on a gutsy comeback and the RS title. Apparently getting a lead in HE this season is not necessarily a good thing. ;)

You guyz just might have something going over there....maybe great things in the post season will come of it.

Wahoo! Way to go 'cats!

UNH only has three pieces of silverware to win each year (excuse me if I don't count the Riverstone Cup!) so getting one in the bag is so very, very sweet!

I'd love to have been there to see us rise Lazarus-like against one of the teams I consider to form the Axis of Evil... yes Maine, j'accuse aussi!

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

At the risk of being offensive to some, I think I'm going to puke if I read one more reference to "the more talented team." If college hockey was primarily about who has the most NHL draftpicks, then the NCAA could hold the Frozen Four with Minnesota, Michigan, BU and BC every year and let the rest of Division 1 move down a Division. Besides, does anyone think Foster, LeBlanc, DeSimone, Kessel and Burke tremble at the prospect of facing other NHL draftees? How does an undrafted fellow like Bobby Butler ever dare to lace up his skates?

C-H-C.. with confidence and poise!!

As nice as this is, UNH this morning is #10 in Pairwise, tonight is BIG!

In that regard, I wonder if Brett Kostolansky will play tonight? I saw him gimping around the arena last night with a godawful-looking contraption on his right leg. Also, I hope Kessel's "numb ankle" won't be a problem.

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

Congrats to all you UNH fans! Caught the game-tying goal last night after the BU game... nice tie and glad you got the regular season title....

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

First congrats to UNH,and the Captains - a great performance for the regular season and as C-H-C noted 3 out 4 regular season titles over that time period is nice. Consistent.

Wonder if it is a carry over from the ND game - one of the stats mentioned on game last night - I think I have this right - UNH has gone into the third period trailing nine times this season and has only lost four. In OT 3-1-7, 11 OT games? Seems like a lot.

Announcers were saying last night that in the third UNH was making a concerted effort to attack the trap by carrying in to the zone by with one player stickhandling right down the middle.

Surprised that York did not adjust earlier in the third as they were a completely different team at the very end of the game and in OT.

i believe the quote was ten times unh has entered the last period down, and have only lost one game , granted there have been like 6 ties , but very unusual. in general teams that take the lead into the finale period win probably 90% of the time .. speaks volumes of what UNH has accomplished

I post and say over and over. Only 2 constants with this team. They never stop and no leed is safe (for or against). If they could just figure out the 2 goals up blues I would drop one part of that.

If they don't win anything else this year but are a very tough out I will be happy. Being a tough out is program knowledge that needed to be learned, I hope it has and will stick with these guys so they teach it to the next class over and over. I would love for UNH to become one of those teams you just don't want in your part of the NCAA bracket any year. Do that and the program truely has taken the next step forward (and the next step closer).

Thats not true, it was 11 overtimes and they're 3-1-7, but they've lost several games being down going into the third (first Miami game, both Wisconsin games, and the 2nd Maine game at Orono.. But they do have some dramatic come from behind wins and ties, thats for sure... gusy, if inconsistent, team...

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

Bummed about Kostolansky, but that will give others a chance to step up.

Last night was great... the 3 3rd period goals just show the guts and determination this team has night in and night out. Sure, where was THAT team for the first 40 minutes? No idea and that is a worry, for sure, but there is something to be said about a team that never feels out of a game.

Congrats, Cats, on the most unlikely of reg season championships! I did not think it possible when you were 2-6-2 and I was really picturing a dismal season at that point. You have given us all a hell of a season. Thanks and good luck in the playoffs!!

Oh.. one last thing... thank you to the Seniors this year! Peter LeBlanc, Nick Krates, Brian Foster, and Bobby Butler. Wow. You guys have been a hell of a class. The leadership from you guys has been just what we fans/alums hope all of our seniors can (and will) show when they are upperclassmen. Your play this year has been nothing short of sensational. You should all be very proud of your play and leadership this season. You have been the epitome of what it means to be a UNH Wildcat. Thanks and best of luck in the H.E. Tourney and the NCAAs!!!

Maybe is the key word.

The old saying is "the most dangerous lead in hockey is a 2-goal lead". We decided a corollary to this should be: "The most dangerous lead in college hockey is anything involving UNH. Doesn't matter who's leading."

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

A minor nitpick - I thought the two teams played pretty even in the first period. The SOG were 14-10 in favor of the Boston team but UNH got some quality chances early in the period. UNH was obviously disjointed in the second period.

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

ESPN is saying Kostolansky out for the rest of the season, broken kneecap.
[/url]

Bad news I would say he is either the 2 or 3 defenseman depending on where you count Kipp. I sometimes think he is the best puck handling d-man, even though I think Kessel is a better passer -sees the ice better.

The upside is it gets Hardowa in the line up. Not the fastest guy but hits and sees the ice well. His big problem is skating but with only 2 more on big ice may not be as noticable a problem going forward. Does play with more of an edge than Kostolansky.

Right now I am most concerned with Krates. Last night the puck was like a live grenade on his stick. He clearly didn't want it in the D-zone and made several bad passes just trying to get rid of it.

Reveling: To take great pleasure or delight. As in - Being a fan of a team reportedly in a rebuilding season, the poster took great pleasure (reveled) in UNH winning the Hockey East Regular Season Championship Trophy.

Agree, nothing wrong with reveling …….have no doubt every other team in Hockey East would love to win the regular season championship. UNH players, coaches and fans earned the right to now feel good about this accomplishment…..Lets revel!

Re: 2009-2010 UNH Wildcats Season

After having seen the Wildcats have trouble most of the year coming up with a sixty minute game (by admission of every player we've seen interviewed by the press) I think the feeling is there's " unfinished business". The HE RSC is a goal of every team in the league. Our boys are looking for more-I know it. Wow , I must have really ****ed someone off, my reputation is -8,000,000 points and dropping.
