2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

I was at both games this weekend and the word that was going around was:

Milo sat because of a attitude issue, not sure what.

Stacey is most likely gone for the season due to a high ankle sprain.

MacKenzie was out because of an illness.

As far as the games it was a terrible exhibition. Sneddon got out coached. He made his defensemen chase around a cherry picker all night eliminating them from any kind of offensive play. Totally the wrong call.

That is pee-wee hockey, when you get to the college level everyone knows that you take the the man advantage and make them pay. Score a goal and they will stop that crap. The chances of Merrimack hitting that long pass under the duress of playing a man short is miniscule, and even if they do the guy still has to beat Madore with a bunch of our "D" bearing down on him, and that isn't the easiest thing to do.

That style of play only works if you fall for it and Sneddon did. C'mon Man!

Sneddon keeps making the wrong moves with this team. Long shifts and selfish play are holding this team back.

Sneddon is clearly playing favorites, Burrows, Stacey, Higgins, Leonard, Downing and Lawson to name a few, have struggled this year and they have been benched because of it.

Cullity and Miller are clearly struggling and Sneddon seems to be okay with that. They are excellent players that need a major wake up call. I think Miller was on the ice for every goal this weekend and you would have to check but I think he was on the ice for every goal last weekend as well.

The coaches have to pick it up and start fixing the little things, stop with the **** favortism. Hold every player accountable to the same standard.

The players have to start playing better hockey. I would love to hear how many turnovers we had this weekend.

This team can do it. They just need to put aside their egos,

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

I hate to see a player injured but I disagree with your "hopefully." I can't be sad about anything that gets Cullity off the ice. I just wish it was a healthy scratch so he knew that his undisciplined play was the cause.

Watch what you say...his sister is very protective of him. She hunted me down two years ago in Boston b/c I made a statement about his late penalties hurting the team.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

Very sad to see any player be so foolish to lose a chance to play collegiate athletics. Good to see a stand up man (Coach Sneddon) stand up and hold to his high standards that Milo obviously was not meeting.

I just cannot believe anyone would wish injury on anyone, whether he is on your team or another team. I am flabbergasted that anyone would wish ill will on a player on their own team. It's a game played by young men. Having played a college sport myself, there is a lot of work to be put in. You have to practice, work out, study, eat, sleep and have a social life. Unless Cullity is out drinking every night and not studying or something of that ilk, keep your comments to yourself. These kids aren't paid professional athletes.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

What the frick?

How can anyone say if Sneddon was right or Milo was wrong for what happened?

If you know, say what happened. Otherwise why say he's foolish? Maybe Sneddon ran the kid out of town.

I second that on PC's Sista!!! Wheww.......

Too bad about Milo, he will be missed. Someone needs to tell the UVM communications department to remove Justin from the pronunciation guide....appears they got all other references off pretty quickly.

PRONUNCIATION GUIDE
7 Justin Milo - MY-low

Where's Milo Blog when you need it.

For Friday I'm sure Milo will be back, probably Leonard, and ALbertson to fill the voids, maybe Franzon in for Cullity.

Dude, you are sick bastard. Not only are you twisted, but no Milo will not play Friday

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

ok, so the worst case scenario has played out. everything happened so fast from his upbeat and ready to battle blog late Friday afternoon to being scratched which you knew had to be something serious to being informed he's released from the team. it's pure speculation on my part but possibly coach has information of criminal activity and in turn is being so quiet about the details to protect the kid......heck, they were in providence the weekend prior (of course hope i'm way off here). I say this because I completely don't believe the theory of him having a bad attitude and is a disruption to the team so they let him go. Nor do I think it's coach vs. milo personality conflict as milo has always come off as a calm, upbeat, likeable kid whom sneddon has talked highly of. Nor do i think it's a yankee thing because if it was a problem from Sneddon's point of view it would have been dealt with after the season or if it's yankees wanting him to get to a training center than everyone would just come right out and say that. too bad, i like him, he was the one guy with a little poise around the net and provided energy. also was interested in his yankee path...yes, i do bleed pinstripes. hey, there are some opportunities out there now for the albertson's and the leonard's to play and put themselves on the map for next season.

this situation, whatever it is, combined with the way things unfolded last weekend must have sneddon pulling his hair out.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

They should just come out now and say what happened as we all know we will find out sooner or later. Someone will tell someone and then it will get out so why leave everyone in the dark. It would probably help the team move on if they didnt have people asking what happened all the time which they are surely to get around campus.

Still going to UNH this weekend and will chear on whoever hits the ice.

The NCAA does have rules about disclosing reasons for dismissing a player especially if it academics related.

You two need to calm down and try and read the posts. I never wished an injury on anyone. All I said was I am not sad he is off the ice. So no I'm not a sick bastard, or twisted.
I find it a good exercise to reread posts when they seem to be outside of what would be considered normal and try and look at it from a different prospective given that tone is absent in posts. You two may want to give that a try.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

A bit more on the Justin Milo dismissal:
"Tuesday evening, Milo said he had been told he was dismissed for inconsistent
effort and play and a lack of commitment to the team."

Here's the link:
http://uvmsports.wordpress.com/2010/02/16/milos-dismissal-another-blow-to-hockey-cats/

well written piece by Ted and a good reminder that no one outside the team has any idea what happens in practice, in the locker room, on the bus, on the road, etc, etc. We as fans are frustrated because we all obviously care about Uvm hockey and would like to be in on all details, which of course we have no right to be in on. At least this morning's BFP article expands a little on the situation but I have to tell you seems like there has to be more to it than a player who isn't committed to the team. If that was simply the case, he would continue to be benched and then things addressed amongst many things with this team after the season. A dismissal from the team in mid-season would have to be some pretty serious infractions or distractions. Although maybe the staff saw this as the inevitable conclusion and decided to do it now as a last gasp tactic to turn this team in the right direction. Of course, that could certainly be the final nail in the cats coffin as well. I, like cat lover and probably most others, will continue to support the team this season and hold onto a morsal of hope that this season can be turned into something memorable......confidence level in that happening admittedly hasn't been this low since pre-Sifers years.

think the program needs to look to a younger guy, this years freshman or sophomore, to take over the captain role next season as the guy the team looks up to much like when Sifers and Strong were given C's before they were seniors. Can't force someone into that role, they have to be built for it so i don't know if there's someone in that group who is a natural leader or not.

Hmm, you are correct on something. Kudos. I lack the ability to see into the future and was wrong. The call to dismiss certainly caught me by surprise, I as suspect it did pretty much everyone. Good job pointing out where I was wrong though. Thanks I appreciate that. Maybe you and Superfan Joe, TimmytheTiger and SteveF can form a group that searches all the threads correcting spelling, typos, grammar and pointing out after the fact where everyone is wrong. It would be a great service and I'm sure USCHO may even probably, but not likely pay you for such a great service to the USCHO community.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

It will be interesting to see if this helps the team come together. While many might have lost what little hope fthis year or a deep playoff/NCAA run I wonder what the players think, mostly the seniors. This weekends effort will show if they have much left, while its never easy to get points at UNH the Cats should feel less pressure now and it might help them score more.

Its strange to think that the team would make the NCAA's if the season ended today while most people seem to think it ended at yesterday's press conference.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

Losing Milo's scoring presence hurts. Not knowing what happens behind closed doors however, I simply offer my condolences to Milo and my support to Sneddon.

How the cat's respond against UNH is a wild card. Its hard to say what moral will be like. Was Milo hurting team moral?? Can't imagine that's the case but Sneddon seems to think the team is better off without him so who knows. Maybe it will light a fire under a few of them to really step it up if they are playing "inconsistently" (i.e. Irwin, Vock) who knows. Anybody's guess......

But Cat Lover you are correct, the season didn't end yesterday. There are 6 games left to establish a spot in the playoffs and I can't believe it but retain a spot in the NCAA field.

Moreover, one thing this team has shown is they can beat the top teams in the country.....that makes them a scary HE opponent for any team. And with single games after the quarter finals anything can happen. I think it's on the lower end of realistic but that's why they play the games.

It will be interesting to see what happens this weekend. This weekend likely will determine whether the Cats still have a chance at the playoffs. A sweep by UNH would be a fatal blow, hopefully UVM can turn it around and get at a minimum two points this weekend. The Milo thing is very strange, especially based on his blog post of last Friday, he seemed upbeat and looking forward to the weekend's games.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

My 100% speculation on this since this is a message board that is meant for hypothesizing etc...

This likely had to do with his baseball interests. He probably was missing practices here and there for baseball related items etc. Sneddon, whose job is hockey and 100% hockey, like most coaches did not want to put up with someone with more than an interest other than hockey. That is the level of seriousness by which college sports is taken and coaches jobs are taken.

I don't blame Milo at all for pursuing what will likely be his long term career in baseball nor do I blame Sneddon for wanting 100% commitment all the time. I think Sneddon should have let him pursue both but in today's highly competitive sports world where his job is on the line every year, he had no real choice.

Again, just all speculation on my part.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

Noticed his name is gone from the roster and his blog has been removed, however no video of the press conference of official statement as of yet listed on the website.
