2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

Hey I got an idea for a new movie to make, it would be all about OldManDover and his response to the message boards. It would be titled "The 60 year old Baby"

Run along now baby before you find yourself hanging out with PC91.

Yay, unable to hold yet another lead and one more tie...great.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

A point is a point, but the cats need more. A tie in league play keeps them in the playoff hunt although at a 7-8 seed, but it hurts the PWR. They need wins to boost the RPI or no NCAA's. They still have a shot right now, but with series at UNH and BU coming up that could be done and over with. Big game tonight.....

First point earned by Merrimack on the road this year. Embarrassing and predictable.

Not impressed with the overall effort from UVM on Friday night. too many great chances missed by the Cats, shot over and wide of a partially open net multiple times, and hit three or four pipes, you just can't keep doing that. And a couple of critical turnovers that turned into Warrior goals.

Nice pass by Miller to the Warrior coming down the slot in the first period... yikes.

i still think the coach is a great asset to the program, but I am a little disheartened with his comfort with the tie

surprised Milo was a coach decision scratch, he must be too focused on baseball, meanwhile Cullity plays on

Sounds like Stacey is gone for a while. They have serious offensive problems without two of their top three scorers

With BU heating up and UNH and UML ahead they have a very difficult stretch run. I can still see this team missing the HE playoffs. With only a 4 point cushion, they must get two points tonight or I think they are in big trouble. do they have it in them to get two points and split the season series with Merrimack or are they just comfortable with last years success and going to class?

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

How the heck to you scratch Milo? He is probably the only "pure" scorer on the team.

Maybe grantfan was/is on to something with the coach...

Agree with the passing issue, too many passes at the skate of the player instead of on the blade of the stick. It can't be that hard, afterall, these are college level players.

Cullity...how does a kid who has 1 goal in his 4 year career get on the power play? Brilliant coaching I suppose. Would have thought Burrows, who has shown the ability to put the puck in the net would have been the guy on that PP unit.

Total puzzle with the Milo scratch. How does a coach sit his 2nd leading scorer, MVP of the holiday tourney during the most important stretch of the season. Maybe this coach is not playing to win? Maybe he is content with the results from last season????

On a positve note...Nice to see Downing celebrate his goal with his team mates last night versus going off on his own as he did in the past.

Thumbs up to Sneddon for the scratch on Milo!!!

The only reason a coach would bench one of his better players is because that player did something he should not do, and letting him play without penalty would have done more damage to the team by sending a message to all top players that they can do anything they want.

The only one we should be blaming here is Milo for whatever he did to get benched.

That's the second time in the last few weeks he's been scratched. I guess whatever's he's doing to be scratched, he keeps doing it.

MC will be real hungry for 2 points tonight as well. A win puts them in prime pouncing position to grab the last playoff spot from a vulnerable Cats team or Northeastern in the final three weeks.

Was nice to see Lawson finally play a solid game and the teams use of him on the right point. He needs to get some consistent playing time here and get some confidence back that he can be a dominant force with his size in the D zone and his shot in the O zone.

Freshman line continues to impress and seems to be the go-to line right now. Fourth line last night was great and is especially helpful when the fourth liners can be your penalty killers. That was a vulnerable line-up last night without Stacey, Milo, and Mackenzie. Hopefully Mackenzie is just a little cold and nothing like last year and hopefully Milo vs. coach issue is minor enough to have him back tonight. Not liking the term out indefinitely in regards to Stacey, tough player to not have on the ice.

Got to love this league though, one night you think you're in the tank and the next night you've got the momentum in the standings. A Uvm win tonight could jump a few teams, a loss makes the climb that much steeper.

Despite being almost excessively bright and insightful with an inate ability to understand the simple game that is ice hockey....

So, when my full yet open mind reads....

even someone of my immense intelligence and understanding becomes confused.
Oh, the personnel choices to be made. Oh, the life of a college hockey coach.

.........................................

People, why not just respond to points about hockey? Attacks without even lip service to the hockey points - remember, you can disagree and even think I'm an idiot - tell me only that you wish things were different than I stated. If you're just going to attack grantfan, at least call it a racist or a homophobe, something that will hurt its feelings and truly brandish it an outcast.

Wow. Get over yourself, Grantfan. "Excessively bright"? "Full yet open mind"? "Someone of my immense intelligence"? In my experience those needing to verbalize their intelligence generally lack it. You ask that we respond only to the hockey points but not the rest. How convenient. Unfortunately the points of your rants that stick are not those of actual hockey knowledge. Oh, the life of a disgruntled web forum participant. Presumably you are a hockey parent who is unhappy with Sneddon for personal reasons, because you seem fixated on him. I'm sure that the life of a college hockey coach is so simple that you could easily do it, as you are so knowledgeable. Why don't you submit your resume? You spend so much time here giving such helpful and constructive criticism.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

After last night's game, if BC is a contender at the end of the season, Jerry York will be the Coach of the Year. Muse does not look healthy, so if the recommended treatment following hip surgery is playing goalie, he'll be fine. In case it's not, he could hurt BC this year. Maybe all of the defensemen will be better pros than college players, but I didn't think they were good last night. I thought BC's point men on the powerplay were awful. Their powerplay became a joke as the game wore on. So much so, that I loved Lawson's pop of that little BC guy in the third period. Lawson got his 2 minutes worth and then we had little to worry about a man down. Kreider may be a fast skater, like our Matt Marshall, but he can skate it over the blue line and throw a wrist shot at the net all he wants. If he's not going to use his speed to try to beat the defenseman, like he did easily and often in prep school, have fun out there, big boy.

My favorite BC thing last night, though, was when S. Whitney carried the puck all the way around UVM's offensive zone in the 3rd period before throwing the puck away and sending the Cats up ice. Boy is he skilled. Boy is he fast. Boy does that look good in shinny. Boy did he look like a little boy doing that in a game.

After watching last night's game, I think UVM is capable of going down to Boston in November and taking 3 or 4 points from this BC team. BC will get great coaching, to be sure, but they looked mighty soft to me last night. So they're young. All of Vermont's kids are college age, too.

FiveHole, I think you can glean from my comments that I know Jerry York is a great coach.

I am saying the BC freshman look soft. And by freshmen, I include J. Whitney, B. Almeida and J. Hayes. BC looked very soft. I thought the BC team looked soft last night.

Did you like Kreider's rushes up the ice? Jimmy Hayes look like a big, tough guy to handle? With skills? Did I miss Almeida standing out? Was Cam Atkinson fantastic? Aside from mocking, please tell me what I missed yesterday? Mullane? Help me here? They all looked very comfortable out on the perimeter.

BC will always be an opponent to be respected. Cliches say they'll be very hungry and angry and pumped up to give it back to Vermont on their home ice in November. Maybe they will. They'll play harder, they'll crash the Vermont net, get bodies in front of Madore. If you have others bring them out in mid-November.

BC will get great coaching.

We'll see what Coach York has to work with this season. I, for one, wasn't impressed with much about BC last night. Except, maybe J. Whitney's slapshot. And S. Whitney's stickhandling.

Help me here, FiveHole.

help me here, gcarterfan

Oh Steve, go easy on them. It's not a good weekend when you give up 3 of 4 points on home ice against Merrimack. If only Air Force and Yale were on the schedule every weekend!

When do the golf courses become playable in Vermont?

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

and yet after a disappointing weekend they still can find themselves only 3 points away from home ice for quarters or 2 points away from not making the playoffs. Uvm remaining schedule is tough and they'll have to somehow find a spark to right the ship. Merrimack schedule is winable especially if they take momentum from this weekend. Can't believe they were 0-12, 0-13 away from the frantic Lawler arena before this weekend.

the Milo situation can't just be swept under the rug, he's the team's top point producer per game. I'm sure his benching is justifiable, ogie just wanna know what the dilio. His blog entry on friday sounded upbeat and ready to do battle. I'm a firm believer you play with what you've got but can't help but think Milo could have earned the team an extra point or two this weekend as close as it was from a 1 to a 3 or 4 point weekend.

They may need to give Madore some time off during the week if he's going to be assaulted this much. He's turned it around in this second half, a lot of these games could have been worse.

It's clear to me special teams is of major importance these days in college hockey. Games are made or broken on the power play.
