2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

He is a local boy, he couldnt ignore the question. If he does he gets a similar reaction to this only instead of just hating the Gophers he hates Minnesota players.

Well, now he looks like he hates the Gophers AND Minnesota players. They never should have drafted Leddy in the first place cause all it did was open a can of worms and now it's worse than it was on draft day.

And it may appear to be a great trade on the surface but all it is is them giving up again on a #1 pick.

Because they knew they would get flack from the Rubes that feel Gopher Hockey is the end all be all of hockey in the world...ya know the ones who sound like you did when they made the trade. :p

What are they supposed to do, duck the question? Everyone wants people in sports to be honest, then when they are they get mad at them because they dont like the answer. What did he say that wasn't true? Hell he was more diplomatic than we are about the current state of the program...but you want him to lie about it to appease a fanbase that has no real tie to his beyond being in the same state? If you don't want the answer to the question then you better hope Russo doesn't ask...Thompson is DEAD ON!

They wanted out of their pick and traded it while also getting rid of an overpaid player they were going to lose and getting a pretty decent player back who will be here until I believe 2011-2012. If this was any other scenario you guys would be all excited but he traded ONE OF US!!11!!1 so he needs to burn! It is amazing how fast people can turn on someone in this town...and people wonder why we as fans are considered a joke.

edit to add: Just in the interest of full disclosure I was one of the few that liked the Leddy pick and while I still wish they were keeping him, they basically traded him for a guy who is playing right now in the NHL. (Johnnson was gone after this season so his part of the deal is a wash) That is about the perfect scenario for me as a Wild fan. As a Gopher fan it bugs me that our NHL stock is dropping faster than GMs last year.

I don't even know how to respond to this. They implied they were worried about someone who just got out of high school, broke his jaw, and hasn't even finished his first year in college. Give me a break. Leddy was the one true bright spot on this team and has been playing better each week.

I wouldn't care that they traded leddy if they didn't make a laughable statement about his progress and completely throw the gophers under the bus. Yeah, the program sucks right now, but leddy's progress is something that you can't judge as a whole while he hasn't even played half a season yet.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Is it possible they see something you dont...just a question to ponder.

Look they obviously want someone who will be ready quicker than leddy will. I am sorry but what should Thompson say after his concerns were made public by Russo in a tweet...its public he has to back his comment which once again echoes what we as fans are saying as well.

And it's entirely possible that there isn't. Yes, of course I have considered that.

The player in question has exhibited none of the problem that he's talking about. If he was talking about Fischer, yes, the I would probably agree. But we're not talking about him. That is why his comments seem stupid at face value.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I dunno I think maybe leddy stands out cause he sucks the least ;)

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

How sad is that??

BTW Beyond the Pond had some interesting stuff to say about the way the gopher have gone about recruiting...talked about how coaches and parents were not complimentary!

{sigh}

Blows my mind. How does Lucia go from walking on water to having everyone wanting to throw him under the bus? I guess losing, but it doesn't change how fast it has happened and how far it has fallen.

I'm afraid tDon has jumped the shark. Sadly.

Nah it just sounds like the crap I heard about Woog at the end. (and Blais too) They recruit through reputation, and seems they are rather lazy with it according to the coaches. (this was Nate Miller and Michelleti talking so you know they arent going to denigrate the Gophs for no reason) One of them said they talked to a parent of a kid who plays at a different school in state and they never heard a word from Lucia and his staff until after he committed somewhere else.

When you are winning you can pull that stuff and no one will notice or whine, but when the team is fighting UAA for positioning that is going to look real bad. Winning hides the flaws it always has.

I always understood the phrase "jump the shark" to mean that you did something that was beyond belief in the sense that it is unrealistic and would happen in real life (as opposed to the silver screen).

As in the new phrase, "nuked the fridge" in reference to indiana jones and the crystal thingy.

Jumping the shark is an idiom used to describe the moment of downturn for a previously successful enterprise.

I didn't know ABC/ESPN had hockey rights. Yet the Canucks v Wild is on ABC today?

It's on KSTP, which happens to be an ABC affiliate. The Hubbards own both KSTP & KSTC (chan. 45) & I suspect the powers to be at HBI decided to air the game on KSTP instead of channel 45. Makes sense as ABC Sports is a non-factor and they'd rather air the Wild game (whose rights they already had) instead of 3 hours of Sunday afternoon infomercials.
