'18-'19 NESCAC season

Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

A spirited, closely fought contest in Dayton last evening saw Middlebury skate past Connecticut College 3-0. The Panthers were backstopped by Han's 29/29 shutout performance and Leidt's 2 goals and an assist.

Back and forth action featured strong goal play at both ends. Camel net minder Denora was tested at 5:20, when Shuchuk found a rebound in the slot. Conn was able to get a scrum at the Panther crease at 7: but Han covered up. Camel zone time and pressure around 12: led to a Panther penalty and then a full 1:18 of 5x3. Conn let this potentially game changing opportunity slip past.

Middlebury scored early in the 2nd when Barney ground a puck from the left wing corner, up the boards to Leidt; Leidt found space moving toward the slot and her wrist shot was in up to Denora's gloveside. Midd goalie Han then made a big save at 9:20 on a drive by Healy from left point that threaded through traffic. The Panthers had :40 of 5x3 time but Conn D and Denora kept it a one goal game.

A Midd powerplay early in the 3rd saw Camel Anderson on a clean breakaway only to have Han thwart her at the top of the crease. Leidt's second score came in transition with Marotta dipping into the high slot for a shot that Denora parried only to have Leidt find the rebound and slip the puck home. A Panther powerplay goal ended the scoring and Camel chances. Leidt moved on the left half boards, got an open look for a slap shot on net; Denora made that stop, but Letterie (career 1st goal) rammed the puck in from the top of the crease. Middlebury took a penalty with 1:47 to play, but Coach Steele did not opt to play 6x4 down 3-0, and Han recorded her ninth career shutout.

Rematch at 3, in what is a big, early season game NESCAC-wise. Hope to see you all in New London.

Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

You have to love the NESCAC. Wesleyan beats Williams 3-0 on Saturday evening, scoring 3 goals on 10 shots (outshot 38-10). Then the Ephs beat the Cardinals 4-0 on Sunday, outshooting the Cardinals 50-9 in the process.

Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

Had the Cards played the right goalie, they may have ended the weekend 2-0. as i said 2 years ago, the Wes kid is very good...and has been the top goalie in the nescac the past 2 years at least....considering how bad her support is.

Norwich comes calling at Dayton this evening. It will be interesting to see Conn up against a top, non-NESCAC team!

It was a good game last year at Kreitzberg. Expecting more of the same. Norwich's offense has started to come alive the last two weekends they have played after a bit of a slow start to the year. NU looking for first non-league win of the season tonight.

Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

based on a look at the box score, Conn was actually the better team. Goaltending the difference in this one.

Conn PP [0-6] is simply abysmal. Have they scored a single PPG all season???

5 checking penalties by the Cadets...7 between the two teams? Hhmm.

Conn is 1/26 on the powerplay. Norwich did not play a strong 1st period and the back to back mid period penalties did not help get them going.
Cadet Conway is a sniper and made a gear change between 2 D at the blue line and was in for a nifty dangle and first goal on the evening. Conn had their chances and a bounce here or there might have tipped things the Camel's way. Good game for Conn, if losing can ever be good.

Hard to score on the PP when your coach doesn't have a clue how to teach the PP among many other aspects of the game.

Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

Williams 4 Elmira 2 Soaring Eagles won a close one with Amherst Friday evening

Middlebury 4 Utica 3 Midd was up 3-0 but held on

Conn 3 Manhattanville 0 Camels 3 1st period goals

GO U BEARS...uh oh...lost to UNE 2-1...St A's beat Wesleyan...Oswego beats Amherst (tough weekend in Mammoth-land)...Colby 2 Becker 2...Potsdam 2 Hamilton 1

Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

Watched the Conn-Manhattanville game. Conn dominated through the whole game, shut down the M'ville offense, and got their second power play goal of the season. It was a good game.

Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

I really thought it would be much closer...5-0 Cards

The Cards totally dominated the second period when they scored three. The young Bants played pretty well in the third but the outcome was determined in the second. The Cards have some very impressive first years.

Ya, so we never referred to any of our teammates as "first years" when I was a player. That level of political correctness drives me nuts. We rarely referred to anyone as a freshman either but definitely used that term much more often. We mostly used the terms rookies and veterans or returners.
