Did we already know Senator Starfish was retiring?

I've always thought Katie would make a great Speaker someday. I guess we will have to settle for Senate Majority Leader.

She has not announced she is retiring. She might try to run again at age 90. Other possible candidates are Adam Schiff and Barbara Lee (both Democrats in the House) and undoubtedly some billionaire who wants some attention. Ro Khanna might also run, but he is being pushed to primary Biden. Hopefully he'll put his senate aspirations on hold for a few years so progressives can unite around a single candidate. California's primary system is wacky and will likely result in two Democratic finalists running head to head in the general election, rather than a D vs an R.
 
Schiff and Porter should cut a deal. They are both very impressive forces for good, I do not want mommy and daddy to fight.

But if I've gotta pick, it's Porter. Schiff is a good politician. Porter is a good human being who happens to also be a good politician.
 
The chances DF would survive another term are rather low. She has no business running again...

Not sure I like the idea of Porter in the Senate but I am not in California so it isn't my call. I think Porter is tailor made for the House.

Senators have more power and a Katie Porter with more power is never a bad thing. Her impact is minimized in the House because there are too many idiots.

Porter is much bigger than a district, and her value will be significantly greater on Senate committee.

I wouldn't be so sure DF couldn't just win again. She has 500 years of favors to call in and her war chest is enormous from all the environmental regulation she has disemboweled over the years.

DF is one of the last great pillars of the Clinton Era incompetent Democratic party, enabling neoliberalism and giving away the store to the wealthy due to ineptitude or outright corruption. Good riddance; another log for the fire.

Here’s the thing: I can’t decide if the school board imprisonments thing is supposed to be hyperbole or if that’s literally something that the GQP wants to investigate. That’s where we are - it is just not possible to make up something so absurd that GQP voters won’t believe it.

I dont doubt she can win...I doubt she will know she won and I would bet my mortgage she dies in office.

The Dems should just keep on letting them do this crap. Outside of the Faux bubble the people have spoken with their ballots on these issues on the national scale. Just keep doing your job and doing what is expected (and dont use their playbook, answer subpoenas and follow the rules) and their reign will be as short as it is stupid. The voters are tired of theatrics and the GOP can't win on policy so let them do their Kabuki Theater and and just play the long game.
