Yep, still here
Not legal apparently (looked it up already), but karma would require not filling McConnell's Senate seat if he retires until the next election in 2024.

Jamie Raskin unloads both barrels. I won't quote it, go read the whole thing.
So, McCarthy announces that they're forming subcommittees to investigate impeachment of Joe Biden, but he won't answer any of the media's questions.
MTG stated she was going to shut down the government unless she got an impeachment inquiry started, admitting she has McCarthy's nuts in her purse.
And now Matt Gaetz, yes, that one, publicly humiliated McCarthy on the House floor stating that McCarthy should give up his speaker position because he's p*ssy whipped.
Now I dont know the rules, so maybe thus hypothetical isn't in play, but does the whole house need to vote (simple majority still?) for McCarthy to vacate the seat?
If they do, do the Dems vote to remove McCarthy or do they vote to keep him?
IMO, if they vote to remove him (despite how correct it may be) it would give the optics that they have something to hide. If they vote to keep him, that could escalate the kangaroo court.
It's an interesting development.
Do they vote to vacate the Speakership or do they vote for a Speaker?
If the former you definitely vote for him. Talk about a kiss of death to be saved by the Dems.
If the latter you vote for a Dem Speaker, and you vote for somebody more interesting, younger, and dynamic* than the usual suspects. And for god's sake you vote unanimously to underline the difference.
* Vote for Ilhan Omar and give the Right a collective aneurism.
Yeah, it's the former. Motion to vacate, and it only needs a few ayes if any, to pass and then they vote for a new speaker. This is basically what did in Boehner, and has been the axe over McCarthy's neck for 8 months. Their big issue is that there's no "next man up". So again it will be a ridiculous ****ing match between these braindead simpletons in the HFC and McCarthy.
Vacating the chair pretty much guarantees a long and protracted shut down, for better or worse. I believe 100% that the Democrats will come out getting the better of it, but that doesn't change the fact that there are real and meaningful consequences to shutdowns.
That said, let these idiots show the whole world what children they are.
Under the new House rules passed Monday, only one member of Congress — Democrat or Republican — is needed to bring a "motion to vacate," which forces a vote on removing the speaker. That would need only a simple majority of the House to pass to oust McCarthy.
I think you only need one member to bring the motion, but you still need the majority to actual vacate/remove him. And you would need to remove the current speaker before you would vote for a new speaker.

You abstain from the vote entirely.
