118th Congress - Neutered Dog Attempts to Legislate

Not sure if anyone posted this already, but saw this from Wasserman:

How bad was D turnout in NY last November?

2020: Santos got 161,931 votes and lost by 12.5%
2022: Santos got 145,,824 votes and won by 7.5%

That's ****ing insane.
ALso insane, wait, this guy ran TWICE and never had any oppo research done? I'd bar every involved in NY politics from any kind of leadership meetings for a decade.

They had oppo research done...that is just false. The Times was handed the story in June and sat on it. They have been called out for it multiple times but they spin spin spin.

So, why'd they have to wait for the Times to do something?

That's the problem with the Dems, they expect the media to play referee for them, and just sit meekly by waiting for it to happen, and it never does.

But they won't do anything to fight for themselves.

It's the New York State Democratic Party. They're woefully corrupt and incompetent. They would've gotten slaughtered like the Florida Dems, but New York is deep blue and it covers it up to a degree. That's how they had AOC beat their caucus chair and Maloney lost as head of the DCCC.

NYS is blue by net population, but it has huge red regions -- most of upstate is Pennsyltucky.

The Dems who have fight in them are sidelined by the mainstream machine Dems who have been there since the 1980s. The party should impose mandatory retirement for all party officials at 50. The place is as decrepit as an empty Clintonista victory ballroom.

He literally told people he wanted one term to get the pension and health care
Santos is in for a sad realization.

https://www.jacksonville.com/story/...congress-member-get-full-pension/15648164007/

Members of Congress never receive full pay as a pension when they leave office, no matter if they serve one term or several, FactCheck.org reports.

The basic eligibility for a pension is the following, according to a June 13 report from the Congressional Research Service, the nonpartisan research arm of Congress:

“Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at the age of 62 if they have completed at least five years of service. Members are eligible for a pension at age 50 if they have completed 20 years of service, or at any age after completing 25 years of service. The amount of the pension depends on years of service and the average of the highest three years of salary. By law, the starting amount of a member's retirement annuity may not exceed 80 percent of his or her final salary."

There is a non-trivial likelihood that in 2024 the House and Senate majorities could flip in opposite directions, something that has never happened in US history. This would happen if Biden held firm enough to carry the House but the bad math couldn't save the Senate.

Because the average person doesn't care what some politicos think. They only know what the media tells them. Are you new here?

We have been hearing for now 3 straight elections that "the map is terrible for the Dems in the Senate!!11!1!" and tell me again...how have the last 2 elections turned out?

We need to stop believing that nerd pollsters know more than the people who are actually voting and just keep attacking and winning.

Michigan should stay blue. Wisconsin loves their incumbents so that should stay blue. Nevada was shaky in 2022, but maybe being a general election will shore up support. PA being a general should help as well.

But if the Dems manage to hold onto three of Ohio, Montana, West Virginia, and whatever “Wildcard b-tches!” Sinema has in store for Arizona, color me impressed.

Pollsters characterize samples to estimate populations. Demographers analyze actual populations. This is about the latter.

Obviously, we will keep attacking and hopefully we will keep winning. But we are the reality-based community. Facts matter. Don't attack experts when they tell us things we don't want to hear: that's a conservative coping mechanism.

Be an informed soldier.

Then they could have been on every news channel and newspaper opinion page for months bltching about it. You know, like how the Repubs do it.

But no, they just sit back and expect the NYT to do all the heavy lifting for them. Like the average person reads the NYT.

Please. Those "experts" couldn't even read the information when it was handed to them in their own focus groups. They may be informed but they are still full of crap.

Most of these experts ignore context to push their narrative. That is why 90% were caught with their pants down in the midterms. They had plenty of evidence to show that their demos were wrong (since others saw it) but they wanted the bloodbath midterm talking point so they left it out. Its like they took the multchoice part of the exam but forgot they had to explain their answers. Even groups like Cook did it and hurt their rep because of it.

I know you worship at the feet of the nerds and I get it, but they don't have any special insight and parroting their narratives doesn't make you informed. Their attempts to quantify all aspects of the electorate is no different than their attempts to quantify all aspects of sports. It does half the job.

And they should have been. I am not defending their laziness in that regard just saying they had the information as did one of the biggest newspapers in the world who just so happens to be the paper of record for NY.

The question I have is...who at the Times thought it was a good idea to just ignore a massive scandal that would have been huge front page news with massive click potential? I get being in bed with the GOP but money trumps all and this story would have been everywhere for weeks if not months until election day. Beyond dereliction of duty tbat is just bad business practice.

When as a country one of your top journalists is Jon Stewart you've got a huge fucking problem. And that's where we're at right now.
