Re: 116th Congress: Episode 2 The Turtle Has Total Control

We don't have a separate thread (yet) for GOP vote suppression and malfeasance so let's leave this here.

Quelle surprise.

State officials have confirmed at least three reports of voting machines in two counties changing voters’ picks in Mississippi’s GOP gubernatorial primary runoff.

Former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves are currently in a runoff for the Republican nomination in the governor’s race to see who will take on Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood in the November general election. Reeves led Waller in the Aug. 6 balloting by a 49-33 margin, though the race went to a runoff after no candidate hit 50 percent.

The issues emerged Tuesday morning, with one Facebook user posting a video showing a touch-screen voting machine changing their selection from Waller to Reeves.

“It is not letting me vote for who I want to vote for,” the voter says in the video. “How can that happen?” a woman in the background asks.

He MIGHT have a chance as a GOPer but as an Independent with zero experience and little to no support not likely. ..

Interesting... i didn't even catch that he was running as an independent. I saw where he tried running as a republican for something in 2016 so assumed he was doing the same... without knowing anything about MN-5, I agree he does not have much chance.

It's Omar's seat as long as she wants it, or gets primaried...

All you need to know about the 5th is that it has been 50 years since a Republican got above 40% there. It has been almost 60 since they last won there. It is a very diverse area of city and suburbs that while it is 60% white it is also about 80% liberal. One of the richer suburbs around is part of it (Golden Valley) which also happens to be one of the most progressive suburbs around. (a few years ago I believe it was voted the most LGBTQ friendly) The 5th is one of, if not THE most blue districts in the upper midwest.

(it has been my home for the VAST majority of my life as well)

And another dou-che gone, and another dou-che gone; another dou-che bites the dust.

I never realized how much he looks like Evil Jim Gaffigan.

The Dead List is now 13-3. 11 of the Republicans have come in the last 6 weeks.

Are there already Democrats running in these districts?

Gotta go case by case. But in all cases, it's a big deal to lose incumbency -- an almost fool-proof ticket to re-election.

The other thing is there's self-selection at work. Members don't retire if they think there are Majority goodies awaiting them in the next Congress. Retirement is a wager that (1) their next election is going to be risky, or (2) even if they personally ease to victory they're still stuck in the Minority. The betting market thinks the fascists are going to lose more ground. Not a guarantee by any means, especially since the Reichstag Fire is coming up, but it's evidence of incipient electoral sanity.

Why wouldn’t these jokers run and raise money..... then just bank it and spend on burgers and such after the loss?!?
