10/21-10/22 Michigan Tech at Bemidji State: WCCHA Opening Weekend

Re: 10/21-10/22 Michigan Tech at Bemidji State: WCCHA Opening Weekend

LOL! When I posted that, I remembered seeing a conversation about that. It was only $3 last year in Bemidji though....... If you don't mind walking, you can park on some of the residential streets in Nymore and walk a few blocks to the arena. Not bad this time of year, but a lot harder when the north wind is coming across the lake in January.

Also, if you are staying at the Hampton Inn, you could walk from that hotel to the arena. Depending on traffic after the games, you can actually walk faster on that route than the cars trying to get out of the parking lot. And, several establishments around town have free shuttles to and from the games.

Confirming the couple blocks away free parking on the street. Just go to the second entrance and instead of going left into the Sanford, go right and plenty of free parking on the street AND in many instances, closer to the door than the extremities of the parking lot.

I doubt very much that Tech will get shut out by any but elite teams this year, provided we stay healthy. Tech takes a lot of shots and has developed some serious offensive firepower. I'm not saying we'll beat Bemidji, as I think they've got a talented, seasoned squad, but 2 shutouts? I don't see it. As to the previous 2 series, I agree that AIC wasn't very tough and Wisconsin didn't play well, but I wouldn't call them flukes. We roundly outplayed Wisconsin and the scores were closer than the they should have been.
Psst... You should rarely take anything I say seriously... except for my strong dislike for BSUcks and MSUcks. A good rule of thumb: my posts are best left ignored.

Close, she thought UAA would get the boot by adding Bemidji, and won't admit she was overly paranoid about her other favorite team.
Psh! I never thought that for a second. A lot of other morons were hoping for that. My thoughts all along: BSU should just fold.

Get ready to hear a lot of chants from the student section that were stolen from the Gophers. And their school song sounds very similar to "Roll Out The Barrels" (the melody I believe is the correct term).

And (although this is not confirmed) they probably chant the "Who hates Huntsville" chant about 20 times a game, no matter the opponent. ;)

Bucky (yeah, that is the mascot's name) is a ridiculous Goldy knock-off. Seriously. I think they took a Goldy designed when he was angry looking (he really was for a few years) and spray-painted it brown.

Don't get me started on the mascot. Such a ripoff. I mean, yeah, go Bemidji, yay small schools, but dammit, be original! BSU was so laughable in so many ways.

I like Bemidji. Who cares if they're mascot resembles the gopher, there's only so many ways you can go when the mascot is a furry animal with huge front teeth. And who cares what they're school song is? At least they have one and they actually play it as opposed to Mankato who just plays that stupid Ole song. As for the town, it is standard small-town USA, you have to know how to have fun in a place like that, and if you're not from there that isn't easy. This may make it less interesting to road trip to as opposed to Duluth, Madison or Denver but seriously, there is equally nothing to do in St. Cloud, Houghton and Mankato. The only real, legitimate gripe I've seen is that the bars close at 1:00.

Well, now that that has changed, I don't see any problem with Bemidji. It is different than other places, but thats not bad, you just have to know what to do in a place like Bemidji in order to enjoy it.

Are the games going to be broadcast on that Northwoods channel?

I'm a big fan of small town college hockey. I think you get a much more authentic grass roots hockey experience as opposed to some big market teams where most of the audience behavior is scripted. Unless you're a 20 something, the lack of after-game entertainment after 1 AM isn't that big of an issue. Bemidji does need to develop a bit more authentic local tradition in their barn, but that will come in time. I've got some relatives in Bemidji and caught a game their last year while visiting. It was a great experience....Sanford Center is an amazing facility for small town hockey.

The game will be broadcast statewide on the Minnesota Channel.

Re: 10/21-10/22 Michigan Tech at Bemidji State: WCCHA Opening Weekend

The game will be broadcast statewide on the Minnesota Channel.

Lakeland Public Television boradcasts all BSU home games over the air. These broadcasts are also picked up by "The Minnesota Channel", which, I believe, is basically a Public Televison feed that goes out to all the PBS stations in the state. Also, Lakeland Public Television is part of the Minneapolis local market package on DirecTV, so anyone in the Twin Cities market with DirecTV also has the games available. Some of these viewing options go into Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas as well.

I know in the Alexandria area here, I can get the home games on DirecTV or over the air with Lakeland Public Television or Pioneer Public Television. With the Pioneer feed, it is on one of the "alternate" channels, so that has to run through the digital TV, but with Lakeland, it is on the "main" channel.

USCHO has predicted a BSU sweep. With that, I can optimistically hope for a split. It feels like Tech hockey again!
