Re: 10/21-10/22 Michigan Tech at Bemidji State: WCCHA Opening Weekend
Hey Bemidjians! what's your arena like (I know it's new and very nice)? do you serve beer? what are the concessions like? band? no band? canned music? this othersider is getting ready to shake a little cane and do a little *click click click*
4376 Seats. Almost a complete bowl seating, the end the Beavers attack twice, the zamboni end, has temporary risers with seating on it for the student section. There is a pep band, but they alternate with the canned music. 25 suites (24 ? of which are all sold out with five year committments). Club section with ~400 seats in it. Don't get tickets in Row 8 if you can help it. We had season tickets there last year (moved this year) and constantly had people walking over us because they thought it was a walkway around the arena. Not good when you have a baby there in a car seat sitting on a seat since they wouldn't allow us to keep him on the floor (yes, he has his own season ticket, as does our now three year old daughter). When you enter the seating areas, you enter at Row 8. I do wish they would have made the seating a little steeper.
They do serve beer and mixed drinks. This year you have to get ID'ed first and get a wrist band before going to get the booze. Parking is $5 this year, and a couple of roads into the parking lot use round-abouts (no Big Ben and Parliment to look at though, but there is Lake Bemidji and the Sanford Center).
Concessions I hope will be better this year and better run. They do have ice cream (our daughter loved this) and the other usual concession fair. Some games they would run out of stuff in the second intermission (at least at the stand by our section). Supposidly, they are going to offfer more "Bemidji Like" specialty items this year.
All in all, a very nice addition to the Bemidji Community and fits the size of the community well. Last year, there was just too much "newness" to it and the place didn't get very rowdy. Hopefully this year that can change. Even though we live two and a half hours away, we have been to some non hockey events there, and it hosts those very well also.
Hope that helps and you enjoy your trip!
