10/21-10/22 Michigan Tech at Bemidji State: WCCHA Opening Weekend

Re: 10/21-10/22 Michigan Tech at Bemidji State: WCCHA Opening Weekend

Not traveling tomorrow. Some knowns, some known unknowns, some unknown knowns.

Brown, Tommy
Cramer, Corson
Gordic, Milos
Heinonen, Pete
Hietala, Blake
Holmberg, Daniel
Pietila, Chad
Reddick, Bryce

If I'm not mistaken, MEg once told me that it all goes back to a few BSU fans suggesting that the other MN hockey schools lobby the WCHA to kick Tech out of the conference to make room for the Beavers. If true, I wonder how those fans feel now that BSU will be relegated to the WCCHA with Tech. ;)

Close, she thought UAA would get the boot by adding Bemidji, and won't admit she was overly paranoid about her other favorite team.

Oh it will be fun in 2 years when some of those MN schools are in their own cellar. :D

I noticed that a majority of the bsu goals last weekend were on the power play. Comments?

Should be an interesting match up seeing as though we had many shorthanded chances last weekend as well as some odd man situations shorthanded.

4376 Seats. Almost a complete bowl seating, the end the Beavers attack twice, the zamboni end, has temporary risers with seating on it for the student section. There is a pep band, but they alternate with the canned music. 25 suites (24 ? of which are all sold out with five year committments). Club section with ~400 seats in it. Don't get tickets in Row 8 if you can help it. We had season tickets there last year (moved this year) and constantly had people walking over us because they thought it was a walkway around the arena. Not good when you have a baby there in a car seat sitting on a seat since they wouldn't allow us to keep him on the floor (yes, he has his own season ticket, as does our now three year old daughter). When you enter the seating areas, you enter at Row 8. I do wish they would have made the seating a little steeper.

They do serve beer and mixed drinks. This year you have to get ID'ed first and get a wrist band before going to get the booze. Parking is $5 this year, and a couple of roads into the parking lot use round-abouts (no Big Ben and Parliment to look at though, but there is Lake Bemidji and the Sanford Center).

Concessions I hope will be better this year and better run. They do have ice cream (our daughter loved this) and the other usual concession fair. Some games they would run out of stuff in the second intermission (at least at the stand by our section). Supposidly, they are going to offfer more "Bemidji Like" specialty items this year.

All in all, a very nice addition to the Bemidji Community and fits the size of the community well. Last year, there was just too much "newness" to it and the place didn't get very rowdy. Hopefully this year that can change. Even though we live two and a half hours away, we have been to some non hockey events there, and it hosts those very well also.

Hope that helps and you enjoy your trip!

Looks exactly like the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, SD. Probably because they had the same architect.

Yeah, but Bemidji got their % by playing Miami and Colorado College, not Sacred Heart! :p

We didn't get our % from playing Sacred Heart, we got it from playing SH and UMD the defending National champs.

:p Our PP was meh against Sacred Heart (3 for 14, 21%). We were 6 for 9 against UMD (75%). So if you throw out Sacred Heart, all the better! :D

Sorry for derailing the thread. I'll try to keep this post on track by saying I see a split in this series: Tech takes game 1, 4-3, and BSU comes back on Saturday with a 4-1 win.

Only three PP goals on 14 chances against Sacred Heart??? Now that is disappointing...... ;)

If you want to throw out the Sacred Heart series, I want to throw out the Miami series. BSU was 1 for 6 against Miami, but was 3 for 6 against CC. :D

How can anybody dislike the Beavers? Or Berrrrrmidji?:confused:
She has issues. Bemidji is great, and the Beavers are an awesome team. I definitely root for Bemidji every game they're not playing tech.

Parking is $5 this year...

Don't expect anyone from Houghton to attend this weekend. They will see the price of parking and turn around and drive the 8 hours back home before they pay a crazy parking fee like that... Those of us still rooted in reality however will continue to make some noise for the Huskies on the road.

Who's headed to Bemidji? I'll probably drive up Saturday from Duluth, since I have to coach hockey Saturday morning.

LOL! When I posted that, I remembered seeing a conversation about that. It was only $3 last year in Bemidji though....... If you don't mind walking, you can park on some of the residential streets in Nymore and walk a few blocks to the arena. Not bad this time of year, but a lot harder when the north wind is coming across the lake in January.

Also, if you are staying at the Hampton Inn, you could walk from that hotel to the arena. Depending on traffic after the games, you can actually walk faster on that route than the cars trying to get out of the parking lot. And, several establishments around town have free shuttles to and from the games.
