Holy. Fu**ing. Sh** Flaggy. So brave of you to weigh in once your Lord and Savior has chimed in on this.
Almost every business in Illinois are gun free zones, because of the insurance liability they carry. I work in the roughest neighborhoods on the west side of Chicago and my company had us sign a release saying our vehicle use is allowed only if we do not carry firearms within the vehicle (including CCW). Many businesses have anti-firearm policies similar to that.
The problem is that once the shooter was flagged by the CCW process (which the FOID issuance shouldn't have happened either but that's another argument), the State Police should have followed up with the surrendering of his firearm.
There *are* issues with the FOID card process, because they have a backlog of applicants and it's required that they complete the review within 30 days of submittal. Fingerprinting isn't a requirement but a throughough background check *is*. State Police will likely need to tighten the screws on this, obviously.
So go crawl back into your darkened den, the one with the tin-foil curtains, and stop spouting off about things you've been told to spout off on, and let the adults deal with this.

Sounds like the first background check didn't turn up anything because he didn't have to give up his fingerprints. That would be a failure of the legislative process, if the store didn't have to demand them.

I'm not fond of it, but if it helps come to a compromise to own a gun, so be it. I also don't do those DNA/Ancestry things for the same reasons as you.

Fingerprints should be required for a gun.
I had to go through one for my job... So did the hubby.
If a job requires one... Gun ownership sure as hell should.
