rather than figure out how to make anything more fuel efficient, they just kept making bigger fucking cars , so all these fat maga fucks, who can't even see their little knob under their bulging beer belly, can get bigger and bigger trucks. Thing is, those are the cars that are selling. Maybe it's the marketing, maybe it's the macho,"I ain't driving no little car" but people aren't buying small, fuel efficient, fun to drive cars. Hell, the Mazda 3, the epitome of that description, is on the verge of extinction because of low sales.
People are buying big SUVs and trucks. That's the simple truth. And that's where the auto companies make their money. Soooo....,.

It's like when I was coaching. I drove a Ford Focus, my 16-18 year old players were driving SUVs mommy & daddy bought them. I told them they had to be extra careful because if we were ever in a collision their SUV would slice through my car like a tin can and that'd be it for me. They thought I was kidding. No, there's a reason their parents got them SUVs and not cars: so when they got into an accident they would be fine. Only the poors drive small cars...

It has nothing to do with being poor. Plenty of dudebros are 40-60 grand in debt on their trucks. They make those $800 payments and don't blink, even when they aren't wealthy and that money would be better used elsewhere.

They live beyond their means so they can tell themselves they aren't poor. Except in my case, the parents could afford those SUVs. Probably paid cash for them. They could afford the insurance for a kid to drive an SUV, which cost more than my car payment. Hell, they could have bought me an SUV. Instead they got me a pen.

Oh, the problem goes much further than that... Think about how many trucks/SUV's are in Minnesota. Do you think that they are only driven by Dump voters? It's a predominately blue state, yet 3/4 of the vehicles on the road are Trucks/SUV's... Why are Escalades/Tahoes/Suburbans the fantasy vehicle of choice for many "urban" drivers? I don't think they are voting for R's any time soon.
It's not a red/blue problem here. It's America as a whole...

Also, what are we calling an "SUV"? There are small crossovers that are more sedan-like, but are nevertheless XUVs with AWD. Some of those get better gas mileage than the turbo sedan I drive.

We vote blue, but we can't carry the boy's goalie gear and a family of four in a Mazda 3. At least that is how it is with our household, got a Silverado with a tonneau cover for over night hockey trips, got a Ford Explorer for the hockey day trips.
And in the snow out here in the "land of rocks and cows", the higher rides makes it easier to get through the drifting before the plows are out.
So, I would say it is more about practicality, at least for us, because hockey doesn't cancel.

sure, my comment was more on how large the trucks have gotten, but yes, all other cars are bigger too. But I hardly know anyone with a huge shit american car. its japanese or european. like, i know people who want to buy a truck, who don't, because no one makes normal sized trucks anymore.

Yeah, I can't remember the specific model now, but a few years ago, I saw an old K car in a parking lot. That thing was smaller than a Honda Civic. K car was supposed to be a "mid-sized" sedan
Today's Honda Civic is like twice the size it was when it was first introduced.
