Future D3 (and D2) hockey programs

well based off the old 2024 forbes financial grades here are some schools he shouldnt go to as theyre below or the same grade as anna maria's financials (2025 is locked behind paywall if anyones got a subscription to them pls feel free to update) Adrian, Utica, AIC, Trine, Franklin Pierce, Roger Williams (No wonder they started a hockey team), Manhattenville, NEC, that new Saint Josephs team, Bethel, and Concordia MN. Personally Utica would be the funniest option for obvious reasons, but in all seriousness Adrian and Trine on this list is great for other teams travel budgets but not good for the NCHA's future.
The fact that this info is public is one of the reasons I'm so frustrated that these poor kids were duped into going to Anna Maria in the first place. Half the schools on this list are actively pursuing AMC students on social media. I hope no one lets these kids go from tragedy to massive mistake.

They may have had no choice. If no one else is interested and you still want to play hockey, AMC was the only option, even if it's a gamble.

I get it. My statement was more general than just hockey (even though this is a hockey forum). Also, if AMC was interested, they almost certainly could have played anywhere else in the MASCAC. I'm most upset with parents, coaches, advisors, etc. Anna Maria has long been an expensive private school with poor academics (outside fire science) and shaky financial footing. A few years ago I read an article ranking them in the bottom 25% nationally on return on investment.

DIIIHN making some cryptic posts about the lack of Anna Maria players in the portal. Almost seems to be hinting at a Northland/Beloit arrangement in the works. Not sure if there’s a another New England school that’s been waiting in the wings or if USJ is stepping in while the program is still building.

USJ (Conn.)
Albertus Magnus
Norwich
Rivier
New England College

Dean would make six and give them enough for an auto-bid...

I also maintain that Norwich would leave the GNAC before being forced to play GNAC hockey so I don't know where that would leave things.

Maybe Franklin Pierce will drop down and fill a spot, as I would agree Norwich playing GNAC hockey probably doesn't happen.

I'm very interested to see what happens with the rest of the NE-10...that conference ceases to exist in the next five years I feel.

St. Michael's should drop to Division III tomorrow with the effort they put into athletics in general. I would think the GNAC would welcome them with open arms, especially if Norwich was still in it. I also am curious if St. Michael's is another school that might be in financial distress in the near future or currently given it's a small religious private school...

ALLEGEDLY there is a gentlemen's agreement between NU and whoever that even if the GNAC sponsors hockey, NU would not be required to join. HOWEVER, with nothing in writing who knows if that would be honored...or if it even could be honored.

IF GNAC hockey comes to fruition, I'd bet the house on Norwich becoming a full-member of the CNE.

From what I have heard, St. Mike's and FPU along with AIC are all in precarious financial positions. I too agree the NE10's days are numbered. And with Saint A's moving down - there are now just 9 D2 schools left in all of New England.

Crazy travel alone just to fill schedules... significant savings for the Saint Anselm athletic department right there on travel alone.

Dean has a few rinks close to campus that would make for a good home. Would give them a better launching point than Anna Maria possibly considering the team and fans wouldn't have to drive 30 minutes away. That and proximity to Boston.

Another school I haven't seen mentioned yet is Colby-Sawyer. Seems like the college has been better off than some other privates, has been adding new sports teams, and has a D1 ski team to boot. As of a few years ago had ACHA club teams for mens and womens but nothing recently. No rink in New London but has Proctor's 15 minutes down the road for a rink and a source of prospects. Would immediately have Keene, NEC, and Rivier as some nearby opponents, with Plymouth and Norwich also at a higher level.
