Future D3 (and D2) hockey programs

Yeah, know the Den barely makes par against the worst D3 rinks.

And I thought I read somewhere that SNHU gets the right to host events at the Arena as part of their naming agreement. Could be wrong, but if that's the case, there hasn't been a true tenant since the Monarchs left and they could fill the space. SNHU has solid athletics and steady growth... if they can make the leap and come to a solid agreement to use the Arena they'll be positioned well.

Sure.. if they get an agreement to play there.. then sure.. it's a big arena.. can't imagine they'd attract enough fans to make it worth it from a financial perspective though.. it'd be like AIC at the Mass Mutual Center..

Do remember, in order to move down, the whole entire school's athletic department has to move down. (The only reason they can play up is because there is no D2 national championship for hockey; otherwise they would have to move their entire athletic department up to D1 as well.) I don't necessarily see this happening for all the schools involved. For those schools, they either just continue their hockey program as a D2 independent, or shut down their hockey program all together.

I’m aware. I’m usually the one having to explain this to people. The NE10, as a league (not hockey specific) is going to die. The schools will more than likely move down to d3. Many of them have already done the feasibility studies of moving the departments up to d1 or down to d3. They landed on d3 being the most financially feasible. Source: coaches at the NE10 schools.

Besides hockey though, the NE-10 would still have 6 full time members to keep going even without St. A's and St. Michael's.

For hockey, feel like SNHU has the best bet at making the move to D1 for hockey between the arena and the school's growth. Franklin Pierce has the D1 women's team as a foundation but the school is struggling financially. Assumption has the athletics for a move up but would be one of the smallest schools in D1.

AIC is out of the question and feel like Post has zero incentive to make the move.

If St Mike’s, Franklin Pierce, AIC and maybe Post all fold the NE10 is dead in the water.

Franklin Pierce and AIC are on life support. Fact. I’ve heard rumors about Post but I cannot confirm.
