Transfer Portal 2026

The NCAA employee I spoke with was rather indignant that these lists exist. He stated they get their information from twitter and instagram posts, lol, but they were absolutely not privy to the actual player portal.
As 'active' as the women's hockey portal has been the last few years - and so the internet lists - it's nothing compared to women's volleyball (and I imagine that's in turn nothing compared to football and men's basketball). Given the speed and accuracy that one sees on the internet website lists with WH and with volleyball, I have no doubt whatsoever that they get the info from someone who has access to the actual portal listings. Whether or not the NCAA person likes it or believes it.

agreed, but the chap at the NCAA transfer portal question desk was having nothing of it:). I did find it interesting that they didnt consider the names that were on the list to be in violation of any rules so why wouldnt players actively put their names on the list as soon as they decide if their intention was to transfer? You know the coaching staff is aware of the lists

A little over three years ago, a very good volleyball player, Carter Booth, described her experience of entering the portal on a podcast. From what I recall, she said you notify the compliance officer at your school of your intent to enter the portal, they give you some forms to fill out (electronically, not necessarily in person), they let you know if the paperwork is in order, and ask for one final "go ahead". You give that "go ahead", and in as long as it takes for them to hit 'enter', you're in the portal. You don't have to inform your coach, or teammates, or anyone other than the compliance officer. She also said that within a very few minutes, she was swamped with dozens of texts and email, from coaches, ADs etc. That clearly implies that the NCAA has set up a system by which coaches, etal. get 'alerts' whenever another person hits the portal. If there were some reason an athlete's 'attempt' to enter the portal was less than kosher, the compliance officer would prevent it, explain to them what the problem was, etc.

Here's that podcast, in case anyone wants to hear it.

The starting gun has sounded, and they're off and running.

About 40 names added the portal lists this morning. I'm not awake enough yet to scan the list for "big' names (and for non-WCHA teams, I might not recognize them, anyway.)

I expect someone will fill them in at some point. Maybe they have jobs. (Of course, if they give me access to the database, I could do it, I've got the time. LOL)
Indeed, the GBL portal is now updated with stats. And they are still tracking DIII, which Wolf appears to have decided to drop.

Don't discount the non-wcha players - a Mercyhurst player ended up at UMD and led the team in scoring for most of the year until she went to the Olympics....And led her Olympic team in scoring. Muzzy poached five or six Robert Morris players her first year after the program collapsed.

Interestingly Johansson's goal scoring from Mercyhurst indeed carried over to UMD though there is a perceived by some inferiority of that conference to the WCHA. Her apples went down, but she her goals/game was her best last year.

Can you call it poaching when the original program folds beneath the players? I think it's more akin to a shelter finding new homes for the abandoned. Anyway, I think it was UND that disappeared early in Muzzy's tenure; RMU was after the pandemic.

Good point on shelter! Wallin also has a big year at UMD coming over from the AHA. The UMD coach is a quiet secret on their recruiting abilities of transfer students. Mobley and Gigure ended up at UMD also. I thought that Minnesota would have grabbed the UMD coach after letting Frost go.

She hasn't been able to get UMD over the 4th place hump yet with these sneaky pickups though. I do agree that if I was the rodents I would have wanted to interview her.
