Transfer Portal 2026

It's the end of the head coach's first season at the helm, one can't be surprised they want to make room for players that fit within their system.

It absolutely sucks for the girls though

Not to "shade" the others, but only two "regulars", and one "semi-regular".
When you have 2-3 regular players opting out, I’d say that’s a big red flag to problems. And when you add 5 more—so 1/3 of the roster!—something’s really off. If I was a potential recruit, I’d want to steer clear.

For whatever reason, they were carrying 28 on their roster in 2025-26; and with a half-dozen incoming freshmen (as far as I can tell). Something had to give. If the others are looking for more ice time, I'm all for it.

(May be another part of the DI school vs DII playing up, but 28 is above the DI roster limit; though there was/is a transition period going from scholarship limits to roster limits, with exceptions allowed during the transition.)

Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but to me this speaks very negatively of the character of the coach.

To me, it’s lazy and shows poor leadership to decide to just toss aside about half of the roster (8 in portal + 5 grads) because it’s easier and personally suits you better than working to make the most of the hand you were dealt. I highly doubt Idalski recruited slugs. This decision has an impact on these players personally and educationally.

These athletes chose St Cloud FOR AN EDUCATION, and several willingly also patiently redshirted for a year to get the playing opportunity they sought. This is not treating them with integrity!

The behaviour and apparent character of this coach is much like the troubling and growing trend among athletes (some in their 2nd time in the portal in <4 yrs!) to simply bail at the 1st sign of any adversity at all. Choose Ease over accepting challenge and/or developing resilience.

Regardless of whether the coach CHOSE to cut loose these players, or up to 1/3 of the roster chose on their own not to continue with this coach, my conclusion is the same—that this is definitely not someone I would recommend in a leadership position over anyone I cared about.

Most interesting name yet added to portal. Rylee Bartz the leading scorer at St Thomas is in the portal. Scored 17 goals last year and will be a senior next fall. I assume she will generate a lot of interest from top WCHA teams

The Tommyettes are bleeding badly, having lost 63 pts. So much for their accent to fight for 4th place. With her I'd bet the deal is done already.

Didn’t St. Cloud State just recently announced the elimination of many academic majors? Isn’t the school bleeding money? What exactly are they using academically to recruit players to the school these days?
