Mostly, I think he lies and thinks that people can’t easily prove him wrong, or doesn’t care that they can. Sometimes I think Donnie Don’t believes what he’s saying because he just can’t remember anymore and fills in the blanks with whatever comes to his mind.

Saw a couple videos today from a guy who specializes or treats people with dementia. He says it's "confabulation" where the dementia patient makes up things to fill in the gaps in his missing memories, and believes them to be true.

Correct. Happened often with my grandmother after her diagnosis. She would refer to me as her other son, my uncle.
