Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

And just when you thought I couldn't get any worse, somebody's pretending to be an announcer. 😂
She never gave her name. I'd be curious to know. She would give fun facts during the game. Besides how many square feet of ice in the rink and the temperature of the ice, one of her fun facts was that she played with half of the Wisconsin Hockey Team.

I believe the announcer was Riley Calhoun. She went to Bishop K and is now the Youth Hockey Coordinator for the Predators. https://www.nhl.com/predators/fordicecenter/ford-ice-staff

I felt she did an ok job - besides some mispronunciations, and a couple times being washed out by the in arena announcer. I think she did a better job than some of the Big Ten + announcer's I've heard - and especially not having this being her full time job. I didn't find her grating or unknowledgeable.

Stonehill is in their 4th year of having a women's hockey team, competing at any level.
What is interesting is that they do have a few wins so they aren't the worst team out there. Unfortunately it also shows that there is still a huge disparity top to bottom in Women's hockey. To me the term "showcase" would imply best of the best type hockey or at least even caliber ability. That's not Wisconsin's fault they got scheduled for the game but does 17-2 produce the same impact as a 3-2 game as far as creating enthusiasm for the game overall?

I don't see the MJ presser being up yet; TDM is reporting that MJ does not know what position Edwards will be playing. Edwards said whatever the team needs. I sure hope this is just a smokescreen to confuse the Muzzinator. UW will not maximize their points opportunity with her at D.

So if he doesn't who does? This is weird. Or is this coach speak like "day-to-day with a lower body injury"? Was it a surprise that there was a switch back to forward this past weekend? It will be interesting to see how this plays out at OSU and then the Rivalry Series games.

Maybe putting Edwards on forward vs Stonehill just gave her a lowkey fun weekend, to remind her of how far she’s come and what she’s capable of in her area of expertise? Like when you have a new challenging role and temporarily go back to your old role are reminded of how expert you are at it? And reminded of your ability to grow and learn and become expert at the new thing too.

Added bonus that now OSU really doesn’t know where Edwards will play this weekend and needs to be ready for either case.

Or maybe it’s just not that deep, and putting Edwards at forward last weekend made room for another young D to get some reps against a manageable opponent.

I don't think teams just get scheduled for these tournaments. I believe teams are invited to play. It could be as simple as the Badgers had the weekend open and Smashville was looking for a team. There is a connection. I saw that the Coordinator of Events for the Tournament is Mekensie Steffen. A former Badger who is top ten all-time in scoring for a defenseman. She was a fun player to watch. She was Captain her senior season, which was the year covid stole a championship from them. 😉

In the tournament earlier this year in New York, and I'm not sure what her position is, but a Rep from Union said in an interview that they were THRILLED that Wisconsin would come and play in their tournament. Sometimes it's about the experience and not necessarily the outcome. Coach Johnson has often said, whether times are up or down there is always something you can learn and grow from.

These 2 points always gets lost. MJ wants to grow the game and he has the team play in outreach type situations. The opponent doesn't really matter. If they are cupcakes, so be it. He's not intentionally searching for cupcakes. A lot teams are cupcakes for the top 2 teams in the wcha. There's plenty of film from the Stonehill game that have teachable moments. There is in every game.

Talk about easy pickings, the VB team Stonehilled their opponent last night.

LET'S GO RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As if it wasn't going to be bad enough, the Eastern Illinois setter - the team Wisconsin played in volleyball - was injured sometime between winning their conference tournament and last night. They had to play with a setter who had played VERY little during the regular season. Imagine playing your first round NCAA hockey game with a goalie who had played one period, and made a dozen saves...

There are cupcakes, and then there are cupcakes. It would be interesting to hear from the players on both sides what the experience of a game like this felt like, both during and after. I understand the spread-the-women’s-game gospel coming from on high, but what is it like for those on the ice to have the game “grown” on their backs? Smashville indeed.

Aside from that ugly 2 on 1 in the 3rd that was miraculously not scored on, yes. Great job. Ava is a beast. Wow.
The goalie is a key member of the team and - tonight - ours was better. Patrick Roy would have gone with a "better sieve" earlier than the Muzzinator did so that is another goalie-related factor.
